Bulldog wrestlers stage intra-squad scrimmage

Ceres High School's varsity wrestling program staged its Red & White scrimmage on Wednesday at Phil de la Porte Gymnasium.

"The kids wrestled really well and with a lot of good technique," head coach Jon Nowicki said.

The White team won the intra-squad competition, 42-18.

Gabe Balderas, Alexis Zuniga, Demetrie Aburto, Gabriel Solis, Tim Lakomy, Drake Anderson, Abel Morales and Matt Lopes suited up for the White squad.

Balderas, a two-time state-meet qualifier, won by decision (6-2) over Nick Santibanez.

Zuniga edged Micah Young by decision (17-15) in overtime.

Aburto won by pin over Brandon Duenas.

Solis won by pin over Ricardo Robles.

Lakomy won by pin over George Sandoval.

Anderson won by pin over Felix Hercules.

Morales won by pin over Eduardo Rodriguez.

Lopes won by pin over Felix Feliciano.

Ruben Sanchez accounted for two of the Red team's individual victories.

Sanchez defeated Rudy Gonzalez by decision (6-5) and Jose Ortega by technical fall (25-8).

David Cisneros won by major decision (11-3) over Anthony Garcia.

Tyree Williams won by pin over Austin Moore.

The Bulldogs will host a 19-team tournament this weekend.

The 47th Ceres Invitational will be held on Saturday.

The tourney will get underway at 9 a.m.

Ceres High placed third last year.

Crosstown-rival Central Valley took 11th.

"The kids are working hard," Nowicki said. "We should have a great year."
