The members of Ceres High's and Central Valley's varsity wrestling teams traveled to Stockton Arena last week for the Big Valley Classic.

The Bulldogs finished in 36th place.

The Hawks placed 45th.

Ceres High had 13 individuals compete at the 74-team event, including Wesley Schwieger, Gabe Balderas, Victor Cruz, Nick Serratos, Brandon Christeson, Gabriel Solis, Ritchie Solis, Nick Moran, Raj Singh, Ruben Sanchez, Joey Bettencourt, Bradley Bruton and Anthony Cleveland.

Schwieger took seventh with a 6-2 record in the 120-pound division.

Wesley beat Ygnacio Valley's Nathan Janis (pin, 0:40), Vista Del Lago's Evan Shelley (pin, 4:59), Oak Grove's Paul Rodriguez (decision, 8-6), Beyer's Gage Parkinson (pin, 3:45), Merrill West's Justin Martin-Del Campo (decision, 14-8) and Carson's Nicholas Lani (pin, 3:45).

Balderas took eighth. The 113-pound sophomore had a 4-2 mark.

Gabe beat Central Valley's Jeffrey Phetsomphou (technical fall, 16-1), Arroyo's Cody Tuazon (pin, 0:50), Spanish Springs' Austin Lee (major decision, 10-1) and Livingston's Mario Maldonado (decision, 6-2).

Cruz, a first-year grappler, compiled a 3-2 record at 286 pounds.

He beat Woodland's Jordan Arellano (pin, 1:38), San Leandro's Moses Ngungutau (decision, 10-3) and Central Valley's James Jackson (pin, 0:55).

Serratos (172 pounds) won two of his four matches.

He beat Yuba City's Diego Herrejon (pin, 2:50) and Natomas' Jakari Ford (pin, 5:19).

Christeson, Gabriel Solis, Ritchie Solis, Moran and Singh had identical 1-2 marks.

Brandon (126s) beat Lodi's Josh Smith (decision, 7-2).

He lost to Carson's Cole McCarthy (pin, 2:28) and Chavez's Kristopher Sanchez (decision, 5-0).

Gabriel (131s) beat Central Valley's Malynda Lomeli (technical fall, 17-1).

He lost to Vista del Lago's Troy Grossi (technical fall, 19-3) and Valley's Dan Luz (pin, 3:52).

Ritchie (141s) beat Liberty of Madera's Martin Escarcega (decision, 8-7).

He lost to Lodi's David White (pin, 2:45) and Bear Creek's Devin Moore (pin, 2:26).

Moran (146s) beat Sheldon's Piero Leon (pin, 4:51).

He lost to Granite Bay's Cooley Johnny (decision, 9-5) and Arroyo's Jon Mendoza (injury default).

Raj (153s) beat Rocklin's Eddy Egan (injury default).

He lost to Liberty of Brentwood's Kevin Milner (injury default) and Bear Creek's Devin Eastman (injury default).

Ruben (216s) beat Summerville's Cole Busch (decision, 7-2).

He lost to Beyer's Jose Garcia (pin, 1:35) and Natomas' Jorge Collado (pin, 0:18).

Bettencourt, Bruton and Cleveland failed to win a match.

Joey (104s) lost to Union Mine's Chris Lee (decision, 4-3) and Vista del Lago's Austin Rompel (pin, 3:23).

Bradley (172s) lost to Florin's Marlon Ward (pin, 1:45) and Livermore's Dillion Mitchler (pin, 4:12).

Anthony (190s) lost to Tracy's Tyler Huckaby (pin, 3:05) and Central Valley's Johnny Proctor (pin, 2:52).

Central Valley's Josh Beckhart finished eighth overall in the 216-pound class (3-3 record).

He beat Pleasant Grove's Cesaer Garcia (pin, 5:40), Enoch's Matt Hackett (decision, 4-3) and Natomas (Jorge Collado (decision 8-6).

Josh had to injury default during his seventh-place match.

Hawk teammate Jaime Lomeli placed seventh at 153 pounds (4-3).

He beat Hanford's Alfred Solorio (pin, 1:39), Spanish Springs' Garek Tauchen (pin, 5:49), Placer's Mark Looney (decision, 4-2) and Sierra's Aidan Foster (decision, 7-2).

Central Valley's Jamie Tadeo (161s, 2-2), Anthony Centeno (146s, 2-2), James Jackson (285s, 1-2), Adrian Vizcaino (172s, 1-2), Alex Alvarez (120s, 1-2), Johnny Proctor (190s, 2-2), Michael Manzur (104s, 0-2), Jeffrey Phetsomphou (113s, 0-2), Vincent Martinez (126s, 0-2), Malynda Lomeli (131s, 0-2), Raul Gontiz (136s, 0-2) and Derek Earnest (141s, 0-2) also completed at the Big Valley Classic.
