The Ceres High cross country team participated in the Golden Valley Invitational at Lake Yosemite in Merced on Saturday.

In the varsity boys race, Benny Perez placed 13th in a field of 79 in 18 minutes, 3 second over a 3.03 mile course of pavement, grass and sandy beaches. Matt Schwark placed 49th in 20:37.

In the varsity girls race, Karrah Brown placed fifth in a field of 61 in 21:07. Sadie Tellez (26:07), Laura Morales (27:11) and Brandi Bonillas (31:08) placed 43rd, 47th and 61st, respectively.

The frosh-soph boys team placed second overall with 101 points.

Henry Shamoeil placed 15th in a field of 69. He completed the 2.03-mile course in 12:49. Andrew Chipponeri (12:54), Alex Torres (13:06), Andre Walcott (13:30), Jonathan Esparza (13:40), Darryl Lopez (14:02) and Chad Hurt (14:04) placed 17th, 22nd, 30th, 36th, 46th and 47th, respectively.

The frosh-soph girls team placed second with 41 points.

Nicole Larange placed fourth in a field of 65 in 14:37.

Nichole Alvarez (14:58), Vicki Morales (15:08), Melanie Casey (15:19), Victoria Medina (15:19), Katie Lutes (15:51), Caitlin Cerny (16:00) and Nicole Caselli (19:24) placed 11th, 14th, 19th, 20th, 22nd, 24th and 57th, respectively.

Ceres will compete against the Modesto High Panthers at Legion Park today at 3:30 p.m. and at the Frogtown Invitational in Angels Camp on Saturday. - By DALE BUTLER / Staff Reporter of The Ceres (Calif.) Courier
