Bulldogs win twice in baseball

Ceres High's varsity baseball team won two of four games en route to a tie for fourth place with Enochs, Turlock, Pitman and Sonora at the 40th Windemuth Classic last week.

After opening the tournament with a pair of wins, the Bulldogs (10-9) sustained back-to-back losses.

Sophomore Dustin Baisdon tossed a four-hitter with 10 strikeouts as the Bulldogs opened the tournament with a 4-0 shutout of Hughson on Monday, April 13.

Robert Cope doubled, drove in a run and scored once in three at-bats.

Tyler Cummings singled and scored one run.

Martino Bertolotti and Josh Edwards each tallied a run.

Tyler Brenning had a single.

Ceres High scored one run in the third inning and three in the sixth.

Cummings played a major role in leading the Bulldogs past Modesto Christian, 8-6, on Tuesday, April 14.

Tyler scattered six hits and fanned five batters while pitched a complete game for Ceres High.

He also collected two triples, three RBIs and one run in four at-bats.

Cope added a home run, three runs and four RBIs.

Bertolotti scored twice.

The Bulldogs made nine errors during their 9-5 loss to second-place Redwood Christian on Wednesday.

Cope, Ceres High's starting pitcher, exited the game after injuring a thumb while batting in the bottom of the first inning.

Robert allowed three runs (two earned) and one hit with a strikeout, two hit batsmen and a walk.

Cummings replaced Cope. He gave up six runs (two earned) and six hits the rest of the way. Tyler tallied three strikeouts and one walk.

Cummings tripled and scored a run on offense.

Bertolotti had a run and an RBI.

Brenning chipped in with a double and a run.

The Bulldogs closed out the tournament on Thursday with a 13-3 loss to Enochs.
