Central Valley, Ceres High win in golf

Ceres High's and Central Valley's varsity boys golf teams improved to 2-1 in the Western Athletic Conference standings last week after winning their respective matches.

The Bulldogs edged out the Los Banos Tigers by just five strokes, 204-209, on Tuesday, March 15 at River Oaks.

"We knew it was going to be close," Ceres High head coach Scott Smith said.

Ian Couture led the Bulldogs with a season-best 4-over-par 35.

"He finally put everything together," Smith said.

Ceres teammates Vince Tomao, Tyler Story, David Brazil and George Borden shot 40, 41, 43 and 45, respectively.

Freshman standout Anthony Bonales fired a 3-over-par 31 during Central Valley's 219-312 victory over Pacheco on Thursday at River Oaks.

Alex Alvarez carded a 45.

Heath Sousa and Favian Guzman posted identical rounds of 46.

Aaron Del Campo had a 48.
