Ceres Gray was forced into a winner-take-all showdown after losing 9-8 to Ceres Red.

Ceres Gray claimed the title in decisive fashion, beating its city rival 27-5 on Sunday, July 17.

"I wasn't expecting to win like that because they had the momentum," Ceres Gray head coach Tommy Trevino said. "We started hitting and gained confidence."

Josiah Frank batted 4-for-5 with one triple, one double and two singles.

Josh Pernetti batted 3-for-4 with one triple, one double and one single.

Phoenix Jackson batted 2-for-4 with a homer and a double.

"We started off slow, then put it on them late," Trevino said. "We took the crowd out of it. The kids had fun."

Ceres Gray trailed 2-1 at the end of the first inning.

Ceres Gray tallied five runs in the second inning, three in the third, five in the fourth and two in the fifth.

Ceres Gray cycled through its batting order twice while scoring 11 runs in the final inning.

Atwater Youth Baseball edged Ceres Gray 12-11 in the finals at the Newman tournament.

"The kids were fired up," Trevino said. "They didn't like the feeling of losing."

Both Ceres teams will play in the Bel Passi tournament, July 21-28

"It's been a neat experience for everybody," Trevino said while talking about his team's successful run. "I know the kids don't want it to end. Everybody's having a ton of fun."
