The members of Ceres High School's junior-varsity volleyball team smiled and laughed a lot during their 25-5, 25-10 road sweep of crosstown-rival Central Valley on Oct. 3.

"My team's different," Bulldogs head coach Kassi Baker said. "They have to be out there having fun. That's how they stay focused."

Ceres High improved to 7-3 on the year and 4-2 in the Western Athletic Conference. The Hawks dropped to 0-4 in the WAC standings.

"For the most part, they're consistent," Baker said.

Kaytlin Donaldson led the Bulldogs with 12 aces, six digs and one kill.

Cameron Diaz tallied 10 assists, one ace and one kill.

Nicole Bates collected six aces, four digs and two kills.

Ryleigh Honberger contributed five kills and four digs.

Cinsera Fore had three digs and two kills.

Cassie Foutch-Malabanan added one kill.

"We were pumped up for this game," Donaldson said.

"We're all competitive," Bates added. "None of us want to lose to Central Valley. We came in confident. We didn't take it easy. We worked really hard."

CHS overwhelms CV

The rivalry match lasted less than 40 minutes.

Ceres High School's freshman volleyball team shut out host Central Valley 25-9, 25-10 on Wednesday.

"We had fun," Bulldogs head coach Darlene Tobler said. "We communicated well."

Ceres High kept its perfect record intact.

The Bulldogs improved to 10-0 overall and 6-0 in the Western Athletic Conference.

The Hawks dropped to 2-3 in league play.

"I have a group of athletes," Tobler said. "They're all focused and competitive. They're used to winning. They have great attitudes. I don't have to ride them at all. They're self-motivated."

Ceres High's Mahlena O'Neal tallied seven aces and three kills against Central Valley.

Bulldog teammates Mackenzie Veuve (six aces), Jessica Arreola (five aces and five digs), Ariel Knights (five aces and two kills) and Sabrina Baisdon (five assists) also contributed.
