Ceres High School's varsity girls golf team is inching closer to another playoff berth.

"I'm very pleased up to this point," Bulldogs head coach Randy Cerny said.

Third-place Ceres High topped Patterson 234-256 on the Ranch Course at Diablo Grande on Thursday and increased its lead over fourth-place Central Valley (5-4) in the Western Athletic Conference standings.

The Bulldogs improved to 7-3 in the WAC.

The fifth-place Tigers dropped to 3-7 in league.

The top three teams qualify for the postseason.

Ceres High participated in the playoffs for the first time in 2010 and made a return trip last year.

Caitlin Pfaff earned low-medalist honors during the Ceres High-Patterson match.

She fired a 47.

Bulldog teammates Erica Hogner, Kinsey Ward and Abbie Schmidt shot 55, 65 and 67, respectively.

The Bulldogs close out the WAC regular season this Thursday at River Oaks.

Ceres High will compete against crosstown-rival Central Valley. The Bulldogs won the first meeting, 164-185.
