Ceres High School's varsity baseball program will hold an alumni game in accordance with the Art McRae Easter Tournament on April 30.

"It's going to be awesome," Bulldogs head coach Bret Durossette said. "We'll get to showcase all the great players we've had over the years. We have a rich tradition."

Former Ceres High leader Art McRae will be in attendance. The Bulldogs amassed a 550-427 record, claimed one section championship and won nine conference titles during McRae's tenure.

"I think it's a great idea," said McRae, who ended his 37-year coaching career with a 4-2 win over Bear Creek in May of 1996. "It's going to help generate interest in the program. I plan on being there."

Robert and Cecil Cervantez, Ceres High's freshman baseball coaches, are considering playing in the alumni game, which will get underway at 12 p.m.

Robert (class of 1994) played for McRae for three seasons. He contributed at pitcher, shortstop, third base and second base.

Cecil (class of 1991) suited up for Ceres High's section championship team as a junior. The two-year varsity member logged playing time at second base.

"Any time you put on a glove and swing the bat it's fun," Robert said. "I've missed it."

Cost is $40 per player.

Included in the cost is a t-shirt and food.

There will be a barbecue after the game at 3 p.m.

The celebration will carry over to Alfonso's Mexican Grill.

Ceres High held its last alumni game more than 20 years ago.

"There is no blue print for this," Durossette said. "Hopefully, people show up and participate. We want to make it an annual thing."
