Ceres High School's cheerleading team received multiple honors while participating at the United Spirit Association Summer Camp, July 8-11 at Cal State Stanislaus.

"I'm so proud of them," first-year head coach Kelly Smith said. "It's a huge accomplishment. We've only been together since the first of June."

Ceres earned the camp's Overall Superior, Camp Unity and Spirit Stick awards on Sunday, July 11.

Ceres received superior ratings during evaluations on July 8 and 9.

Ceres was also recognized for its spirit on July 10.

"This is a big deal for them," Smith said. "It's been at least four years since Ceres High has won awards like that."

Ceres' Cailyn Young and Laura Yung were both named to the All-America Cheer Team.

"It entitles them to participate in the London and Macy's day parades," Smith said.

The entire team has also been invited to the NFL Pro Bowl, slated to be held this January in Hawaii.

In 2005-06, Ceres High's varsity and JV cheer squads both took home the superior award from the USA Summer Camp.
