The members of Ceres High's and Central Valley's football programs focused on weight training and conditioning under the watchful eyes of their coaches during the Sac-Joaquin Section-imposed Dead Period, which ran July 16-31.

"The team's getting bigger, stronger and faster," Hawk senior Raul Castillo said.

On July 16, Castillo, Marcus Rodriguez, Juan Plasencia, Marcus Clark, Benjamin Anitelea and their Central Valley teammates flipped tractor tires on pavement outside the weight-room facility before heading to the football field for running drills.

"It's a family atmosphere out here," Hawks head coach Jason McCloskey said.

Connor, Jacob and Luke, McCloskey's three sons, were in attendance.

At Ceres High on July 18, Lovepreet Singh, Pietro Puducay, Lucas Silva, Osvaldo Zarco, Blake Hurst, Caden Johnson and the Bulldogs cycled through various training stations.

Ceres High players engaged in a game of frisbee football at Bulldog Stadium afterwards.

Fall practices for football, boys soccer, girls tennis, girls golf, volleyball, water polo and cross country will get underway on Aug. 6.
