The Ceres Dolphins headed to the Mid-Valley Swim League East Swimming Championships with high hopes.

"I think we're going to make a lot of noise," head coach Tracy Bull said. "We have a good chance at finishing in the top three."

The recreational swim club placed third in a field of five with 1,1101/2 points at Pitman High School.

The Turlock Sea Dogs, formerly of Hughson, captured the team title. The Oakdale Gators (1,177), Turlock Marlins (124) and Modesto Sharks (46) finished second, fourth and fifth, respectively.

"We're definitely the most talented team in the league," Bull said. "We just don't have enough bodies to score enough points. Once our numbers match up, we'll beat anybody."

Ceres had 28 firsts, 29 seconds, 21 thirds, 17 fourths, 24 fifths, 23 sixths, 19 sevenths and 19 eighths.

The Dolphins were led by high-point trophy winners Michael Brogdon (17-18 boys), Cassandra Guevara (13-14 girls), Haley Fisicaro (11-12 girls), Marissa Morado (7-8 girls) and Jadyn Shinn (6&under girls).

"We had more than our share of overall champions," Bull said.

Guevara, Cierra Alvear, Taylor Rogers and Montana Bull teamed up to place first with a league-best time of 2:05.17 in the 200 medley relay in the 13-14-year-old girls division.

Ceres' quartet knocked off Oakdale, which won the previous four meetings. The Gators completed the race in 2:05.74.

"That was really gratifying," Tracy said. "We knew the only team that could beat them was us."
