There were a lot of handshakes and hugs during Ceres High's crosstown showdown with Central Valley in varsity swimming on Friday.

The Bulldogs swept the competitions.

"It's a friendly rivalry," Ceres High head coach Rebecca Sanders said.

Added Hawks leader Sarah Willems: "Most of the kids know each other from doing Ceres Dolphins during the summer or growing up together."

The Bulldogs won the girls meet, 104-57.

Ceres High (4-4) had a host of contributors, including Haley Fisicaro, Tori Gunzenhauser, Montana Bull, Megan Braverman, Courtney Frampton, Salleen Narvaez, Maureen Serna, Brooke Hurst, Samantha Johnson, Morgan Ogden, Gabriella Hernandez and Sara Aguilar.

The Bulldogs' 200 medley and 200 free relay teams of Bull, Braverman, Fisicaro and Gunzenhauser placed first and second, respectively. They qualified for frosh-soph sections in both events.

Fisicaro posted a section-qualifying time while placing first in the 100 fly. She also took second in the 50 free.

Gunzenhauser placed first in the 200 free and second in the 100 breast.

Bull placed first in the 100 back and second in the 200 IM.

Frampton placed first in the 500 free and second in the 100 free.

Narvaez placed second in the 500 free.

Serna placed second in the 100 fly and fourth in the 100 breast.

Hurst placed third in the 200 free and 100 back.

Johnson placed third in the 200 IM and 100 breast.

Braverman placed third in the 100 fly and 100 free.

Ogden placed fourth in the 50 free and 100 free.

Hernandez placed fourth in the 200 free.

Aguilar placed fifth in the 50 free and 100 back.

Ceres High finished first (Narvaez, Johnson, Hurst, Frampton) and second (Ogden, Hernandez, Aguilar, Serna) in the 400 free relay.

Aguilar, Hernandez, Narvaez and Frampton teamed up to place third in the 200 free relay.

Hurst, Serna, Johnson and Ogden finished third in the 200 medley relay.

Taylor Rogers, Cierra Alvear, Arleigh Meek, Savanna Alvear, Stephanie Muci, Kate Gaede, Anna Kondratyuk and Cherise Azevedo turned in standout performances for Central Valley's girls (0-8).

Rogers placed first in the 50 free and 100 free.

Cierra Alvear placed first in the 200 IM and 100 breast.

Meek placed second in the 200 free.

Savanna Alvear placed second in the 100 back and third in the 50 free.

Muci placed third in the 500 free and fourth in the 100 back.

Gaede placed fourth in the 100 fly and fifth in the 100 breast.

Kondratyuk placed fifth in the 200 free and 100 free.

Azevedo placed sixth in the 100 breast.

Central Valley's quartet of Cierra Alvear, Savanna Alvear, Gaede and Rogers teamed up to place first in the 200 free and 200 medley relays.

Ceres High's boys earned a 92-48 win over the winless Hawks.

Both teams made due with thin lineups.

"We pretty much led from start to finish," Sanders said.

Victor Cruz, Dylan Hines, Kody Fliflet, Nick Serratos, Joseph Ochoa, Gianni Blandino, Steven Smith and JT Verdugo paced Ceres High (2-6).

Cruz placed first in the 50 free and 100 fly.

Hines placed first in the 200 IM and 100 back.

Fliflet placed first in the 100 free and second in the 100 breast.

Serratos placed first in the 200 free and second in the 100 back.

Ochoa placed first in the 500 free and second in the 200 IM.

Blandino placed second in the 500 free and third in the 200 free.

Smith placed fourth in the 100 free and fifth in the 50 free.

Verdugo placed fourth in the 100 breast and sixth in the 100 free.

Hines, Cruz, Serratos and Fliflet teamed up to place first in a pair of relays (200 medley, 200 free).

Ceres High's 400 free relay team of Blandino, Verdugo, Smith and Ochoa placed first as well.

Genaro Hernandez, Jesus Espinoza, Abraham Navarro, Billy Gonzalez, Andrew Vazquez and Danny Suarez all contributed to Central Valley's point total.

Hernandez placed first in the 100 breast.

Espinoza placed second in the 50 free and 100 free.

Navarro placed second in the 100 fly.

Gonzalez placed second in the 200 free and third in the 100 breast.

Vazquez placed third in the 50 free and 500 free.

Suarez placed fourth in the 50 free and fifth in the 100 free.

Central Valley placed first in the 200 medley relay (Espinoza, Hernandez, Navarro, Vasquez) and second in the 200 free relay (Espinoza, Gonzalez, Navarro, Suarez).

"I'm really pleased with how they did," Willems said. "It's hard having such a small team."
