Frosh-soph Bulldogs finish strong

Ceres High School's frosh-soph boys basketball team had a positive final day at its home tournament last week.

The Bulldogs rallied for a 53-39 victory over Pitman in the third-place game on Wednesday at Phil de la Porte Gymnasium.

"I'm proud of them," head coach Jim Pernetti said. "They're working really hard. They just have a lot to learn about basketball."

Eric Madrigal led Ceres High with 13 points.

Caden Johnson, Haydon Turpin and freshman Terry Brogdon tallied 12, 11 and nine points, respectively.

Devon Ruger and Zach Brown had three points apiece.

George Arroyo added two points.

The Bulldogs outscored the Pride 27-9 in the fourth quarter.

Johnson totaled eight points.

Turpin and Brogdon collected six points each.

Madrigal and Ruger totaled four and three points.

"The effort was really good," Pernetti said.

Ceres High jumped out to a 10-0 lead before losing 77-32 to Modesto Christian on Tuesday, Dec. 21.

Madrigal had 12 points.

Johnson and Ruger contributed seven and five points, respectively.

Arroyo, Brown, Turpin and Randeep Singh chipped in with two points apiece.

The Bulldogs lost 69-54 to Beyer on Monday, Dec. 20.

Turpin scored a team-high 15 points.

Johnson added 14 points.

Brown and Ruger finished with eight and seven points, respectively.

Arroyo and Madrigal both had four points.

Minder Singh added one point.

Ceres High had one player named to the all-tournament team. Johnson averaged 11 points per game.

"He's one of our best athletes," Pernetti said. "He's fearless."
