Garcia pleased with volleyball team's performance

The Ceres High varsity volleyball team turned in an impressive performance against Ripon in a non-conference match Friday night in Ceres.

The Bulldogs lost in three sets, 22-25, 11-25, 18-25, to the Indians.

"For us to play head to head with them was pretty impressive," said Ceres coach Sue Garcia. "We played real well."

The Bulldogs never stopped battling.

"This was an enormous step from last night," Garcia said. "If we can continue to do that, we're going to have some great momentum going into league."

Ceres challenged Ripon.

There were 10 lead changes and nine ties in the opening set.

Ripon took control by scoring five of the final six points.

The Indians led from start to finish in the second set. Ripon scored 16 of the last 22 points.

Ceres evened the score at 17-all in the third set. Then Ripon proceeded to score eight of the final nine points.

There were seven lead changes and seven ties in the final set.

Ripon played incredible defense.

Megan Ruch and Brittany Jensen had seven and six digs, respectively.

Danielle Wells had six blocks.

"That's a well-oiled machine," Garcia said. "They know exactly where to go."

Ripon's offense was also dominant.

Jill Davis had 12 kills.

Megan Duran had 14 assists.

Brenna Luchessi had 13 assists.

Elisha Ferguson had 12 assists and two ace serves for the Bulldogs.

Krystle Brown had six kills, all in the first game, and two blocks.

Jessica Hunter had five kills.

Monica Hall had one ace serve.

Ceres lost its season opener on Thursday at Ceres High School. The Manteca Buffalos posted a 25-19, 20-25, 25-5, 25-23 victory over the Bulldogs.
