Teammates at Ceres High for three seasons, 2018 grad Adrian Magdaleno and senior-to-be Brock DeWitt will play together one last time this weekend in Turlock.

Magdaleno and DeWitt were both selected to participate in the 29th Annual Modesto Sunrise Rotary High School All-Star Baseball Classic on Saturday at Stanislaus State.

“I talked with both of them,” Bulldogs’ head coach Clinton Goblirsch said. “They’re excited about getting to play in it.”

Adrian and Brock will suit up for the Gold team, which features players from Ceres High, Beyer, Johansen, Gregori, Hughson, Waterford, Turlock, Turlock Christian, Patterson and Oakdale.

The Blue team features talent from Central Valley, Modesto High, Downey, Enochs, Modesto Christian, Central Catholic, Big Valley, Riverbank, Pitman and Orestimba.

"Win or lose, it doesn’t matter. I just want to show what I can do in front of everybody in the stands.”

“It feels really good being able to represent Ceres High in the game for the second time,” said Magdaleno, a participant during the 2017 all-star contest. “I set a goal to make it back. I was really hoping I’d be selected again. Win or lose, it doesn’t matter. I just want to show what I can do in front of everybody in the stands.”

“I’m pretty excited,” DeWitt said. “I set a goal for myself to play in the all-star game this year. It will be fun playing against people I grew up with and higher competition.”

Magdaleno played two seasons of varsity baseball with the Bulldogs.

Adrian compiled a 12-7 record with a 1.87 ERA, 114 strikeouts, eight complete games and two saves.

He earned first-team, all-Western Athletic Conference honors in 2017.

“I’m pretty satisfied,” Magdaleno said. “I always strived to do better.”

“He had a great two years,” Goblirsch said. “He was our go-to guy this year. He gave us a chance to win every time he was on the mound. He did a good job of hitting his spots and keeping batters off-balance.”

“He was our ace pitcher,” DeWitt said. “We could always count on him.”

Adrian plans to join the baseball team at Modesto Junior College.

“I’ve been playing the sport for a long time,” Adrian said. “I really didn’t like it at first. It became something I love to do.”

DeWitt, a third-year varsity player, was selected to the WAC First Team this season.

Brock’s main positon was second base.

He was Ceres High’s leadoff hitter.

DeWitt posted a batting average of .290 with one triple, three doubles, seven RBIs, 25 runs and 12 stolen bases.

“He set the table for everybody else,” Goblirsch said. “He was our sparkplug. We expect him to do the same things next year.”

Added Magdaleno: “He’s a great player.”

The all-star game will get underway at 7:05 p.m.

“I’ve watched Stanislaus State play a couple games there,” DeWitt said. “I love the idea of playing under the lights.”

“It’s a different atmosphere and ballgame,” Goblirsch added. “It’s fun watching our guys play against the top guys from around the area.”
