Central Valley’s girls basketball program compiled a 5-23 overall record this winter. The Hawks lost all of their games last season.

A year removed from compiling an 0-8 record, Central Valley’s girls basketball program collected five wins this winter.

“As a team, we grew from the beginning of the season to the end,” Hawks’ head coach Ryan Donnelly said. “I saw some improvements in both our offense and defense.”

Central Valley dropped its season finale, 70-33, to Patterson on Feb. 10 in Ceres.

Sophomore Kareena Kang buried four treys on her way to scoring a team-high 15 points.

Alyssa Rojo added 14 points.

Tatyanna Valencia and junior Aleecia Silva both had two points.

Central Valley lost 48-9 at El Capitan on Feb. 8.

Rojo led the Hawks with six points.

Kang had two points.

Valencia added one point.

The Hawks posted a 5-23 overall record and finished in last place in the Central California Conference standings (1-11) this season.

Central Valley finished 0-8 while competing in the Western Athletic Conference South Division during the 2020-21 COVID-shortened campaign.

The Hawks will lose six players to graduation, including Rojo, Valencia, Carmen Carranza, Rinah Dulay, Neida Delgado and Jasman Kaur.

“They all contributed to the team in their own way and all will be missed next season,” Donnelly said.

Central Valley secured its last playoff berth in 2016-17. The Hawks went 11-13 and finished second in WAC play (7-3).

Central Valley had a combined record of 5-60 the three seasons before Donnelly’s promotion to head coach two years ago.

“My expectations for next season are for us to continue to grow and improve,” he said. “We have some returners coming back that helped us a lot this year, as well as some younger players moving up that will be impactful.”
