Two members of Central Valley High School’s boys golf team were recognized for their outstanding play this spring.

William Montez and Emmanuel Campos both earned second-team all-Western Athletic Conference honors.

Montez, a junior, tied for ninth in the conference’s overall individual standings.

He totaled 177 points.

“He’s the leader of the team,” head coach Scott Edwards said. “He helps the younger guys. He’s funny, positive and has a great work ethic. He doesn’t miss practice. In most scenarios, kids can’t wait to get out of practice. He wants to master his craft.”

Campos, a junior, totaled 74 points en route to a 10th-place finish in the WAC’s overall individual standings.

“His swing got stronger,” Edwards said. “He increased his distance. His short game got better. His putting was consistent. He likes being out there.”

Montez and Campos helped lead Central Valley to a fourth-place showing at the WAC Championships on April 28 at Modesto’s par-72 Dryden Park Golf Course.

Montez and Campos finished with rounds of 96 and 99, respectively.

Montez and Campos both enjoyed their best seasons to date with the Hawks.

Montez and Campos accomplished a first in their prep golf careers by securing individual berths to the Sac-Joaquin Section Division-IV Tournament, staged on May 5 at Merced Golf & Country Club.

Campos (104) and Montez (121) took 33rd and 52nd, respectively.

A total of 68 golfers competed at Divisionals.
