The Ceres Seahawks varsity youth football team evened its record at 1-1 this past week.

Ceres blasted the winless Turlock Bulldogs 46-8 in Cen-Cal AFC play on Saturday at Central Valley High School.

The Seahawks opened the 2016 campaign with a 32-18 home loss to the Turlock Pride on Aug. 28.

"We had a great week of practice," Ceres head coach Joe Borba said. "We changed the entire defense, including moving personnel to solidify specific spots. The kids worked hard and stuck to the game plan."

Seahawk running back Isaiah Hidalgo was a beast on offense.

Hidalgo piled up 237 yards and four touchdowns on just eight carries.

He scored on runs of 16, 89, 75 and 34 yards.
Isaiah also caught a 47-yard TD pass from Phoenix Jackson.
"Hidalgo ran wild all day and at one point scored on four consecutive touches," Borba said.

Ceres teammate Amare Roberson added 56 yards and one touchdown on four carries.

He scored on a 31-yard run.

The Seahawks controlled the line of scrimmage the entire game.

"Jorge Avila, Vincent Cruz, Ruben Valenzuela, Ray Beffa, Sammy Garcia and Michael Leon paved the way for the running game," Borba said.

Valenzuela collected a team-high nine tackles on defense.

Jaden Merchant returned an interception 88 yards for a touchdown and registered two sacks.

Konor Bailey chipped in with five tackles.

Avila and Bernie Vallalon both had four tackles.

"Overall, the team played great against one of the top programs in the league," Borba said. "We have a few things that we still need to improve on but this was a great step in the right direction."

Ceres will travel to Modesto Christian this Saturday to face the 2015 Cen-Cal Jr. Football League Super Bowl champion Modesto Broncos.

Kickoff slated for 7 p.m.
