Members of the Ceres High School boys track and field program’s 4x400 relay team took home third-place patches after setting a personal record at the County Clash Championships on March 22 at Oakdale High School.

Reis Smith, Sergio Torres, Cashton Almeida and Manny Mendoza posted a time of 3:37.78 in the event while representing CHS and Stanislaus County.

Smith, Torres, Almeida and Mendoza avenged a Central California Conference dual-meet loss versus Mountain House’s 4x400 relay team.

“It was a cool way to end the night,” Bulldogs’ head coach Brett Johnson said. “It was a gutsy performance.”

Ceres High’s 4x100 relay team of Smith, Mendoza, AJ Brown and Tre Karriem placed 12th (45.68) at the County Clash meet.

Torres set a personal record while placing sixth in the 800 (2:03.77).

Karriem placed 12th in the triple jump (36-101/2).

David Rodriguez-Ochoa placed 15th in the 110 hurdles (18.59).

Ceres High’s 4x400 girls relay team of Mariah Zamora, Brooke Kiser, Jaden Stahl and Jayden Garcia placed seventh (4:39.86).

Zamora, Kiser, Stahl and Garcia set a personal record in the event.

Lilly Blevins placed sixth in the discus (99-10) and 10th in the shot put (28-6).

She set a personal record in the discus.

“She had a great showing,” Johnson said.

Serena Chalk placed 15th in the shot put (26-11).

Central Valley’s track and field program had just one individual compete at the County Clash in boys standout Anthony Ramirez.

“I was really happy with how he performed,” said Hawks’ leader Michael Mrgudic. “He showed he belonged there. He didn’t fold under the pressure. He represented our school among the best athletes in three counties.”

Ramirez finished ninth in the 100 (11.37).

He posted his second-fastest time of the season in the event.

“He ran a great 100,” commented Mrgudic. “He was in the fastest heat of the day.”

Ramirez finished 12th in the long jump (18-53/4).

The County Clash Championships featured top talent from three counties, including Stanislaus, San Joaquin and Merced.

The meet was delayed due to weather conditions.

Students-athletes, coaches and spectators had to clear the stadium because of lightning. They waited inside cars, vans and buses until the competition resumed.
