CHS, CV face off against conference track and field rivals

Ceres High’s Reis Smith placed second in the 400 while competing against Beyer and Johansen this past Wednesday. He also ran legs on the Bulldogs’ winning 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams.

Ceres High’s track and field program hosted a Western Athletic Conference double-dual meet this past week.

Central Valley traveled to Patterson Community Stadium to compete at the Central California Conference’s third cluster meet.

The Bulldogs swept the Beyer Patriots and Johansen Vikings on April 19 at CUSD Stadium.

“All we worry about is setting personal records,” said Coach Brett Johnson. “You can’t be upset about doing the best you’ve ever done. Places will come. Improvement is our main goal.”

Ceres High’s boys team remained in third place in the WAC after topping Beyer 97-38 and cruising to a 114.5-21.5 victory over Johansen.

The Bulldogs improved to 4-2 in the league standings.

“I’m proud of our boys and where they’re at. They’re doing some great things.”

The Bulldogs’ 4x100 relay team of Reis Smith, Ricky Stanley, Tarrell Lee-Gill and Lebron Stallworth placed first (47.7).

The Bulldogs’ 4x400 relay team of Smith, Stanley, Manny Mendoza and Cesar Bolanos Aleman placed first (4:01.1).

Mendoza placed first in the 200 (24.2) and 400 (56.9), and third in the long jump (16-71/2).

Jaiden Boss placed first in the 300 hurdles (44.7) and third in the 110 hurdles (17.5).

Stallworth placed first in the high jump (5-10) and fifth in the 200 (27.3).

Faiva Tuakalau placed first in the shot put (41-51/2) and sixth in the discus (102-31/2).

Dakota Adams placed first in the pole vault (10-0), fourth in the triple jump (32-41/2) and eighth in the long jump (14-9).

Bolanos Aleman placed second in the 800 (2:22.2) and 1,600 (5:33.6).

Calen Adams placed second in the pole vault (7-9).

Smith placed second in the 400 (58.7) and sixth in the long jump (16-0).

Tre Karriem placed first in the triple jump (36-9), second in the 200 (25.1), and fourth in the 100 (11.9) and long jump (16-5).

Yahir Ruiz placed second in the 3,200 (12:22.9) and fourth in the 1,600 (5:52).

Kyle Phongsa placed second in the triple jump (34-21/4), fourth in the 300 hurdles (53.3), and fifth in the 110 hurdles (20.5) and long jump (16-2).

Daniel Baker placed second in the discus (108-01/2) and fifth in the shot put (36-4).

Bryan Gallardo placed second in the discus (119-3) and seventh in the shot put (34-51/2).

Angel Palma placed second in the shot put (40-11) and 10th in the discus (88-1).

Sergio Torres placed third in the 800 (2:30.5) and 1,600 (5:35.5).

Jesus Madrigal placed third in the pole vault (7-6).

AJ Brown placed third in the high jump (5-2) and fourth in the 200 (26.5).

Von Tigner placed third in the triple jump (33-3) and ninth in the long jump (14-01/2).

Juan Carrillo placed third in the shot put (37-3) and 15th in the discus (79-7).

Stanley placed fourth in the 110 hurdles (20.0) and fifth in the 100 (12.0).

Lee-Gill placed fifth in the triple jump (30-61/2) and sixth in the 100 (12.3).

Aaron Lopez placed fifth in the 300 hurdles (55.5) and 400 (1:04.7), and ninth in the 3,200 (13:36).

Gurman Dhaliwal placed sixth in the 400 (1:10.8).

Eduardo Garcia placed sixth in the 1,600 (6:11.7) and seventh in the 3,200 (13:17).

Logan Sierras placed sixth in the 200 (30.9) and 400 (1:12.8), seventh in the triple jump (26-11), and 12th in the long jump (11-8).

Thomas Lopez placed sixth in the shot put (35-4) and 16th in the discus (78-11).

Alejandro Plantillas Rosa placed seventh in the 1,600 (6:11.9), eighth in the 800 (2:49) and 10th in the 3,200 (14:33).

Jeremiah Diaz placed eighth in the shot put (33-11) and 13th in the discus (85-31/2).

Jesse Ortiz placed eighth in the discus (90-8) and 13th in the shot put (32-51/2).

Ceres High’s fourth-place girls team evened its WAC dual record at 3-3 after besting Beyer 68-40 and coasting to a 93-10 win against Johansen.

“We have a great group of girls,” Johnson said. “I’m proud of the effort they give every week. They’ve battled well.”

The Bulldogs’ 4x100 relay team of Jayda Bryant, Alexa Romo, Jelaine Esguerra and Abigayil Prado placed first (56.3).

Prado placed first in the 100 (13.7) and second in the long jump (13-21/4).

Jaden Stahl placed first in the 1,600 (6:33).

Giulia Puonzo placed first in the 400 (1:17.3) and 800 (3:20.3), and third in the 1,600 (6:57).

Romo placed first in the 200 (31.4), fourth in the 100 (14.5) and fifth in the 100 hurdles (21.3).

Lilly Blevins placed first in the shot put (30-6) and third in the discus (78-7).

Brianna Luna placed second in the 1,600 (6:47) and 3,200 (14:47).

Leilah Elsumeri placed second in the 400 (1:19.7).

Esguerra placed second in the 200 (31.4) and third in the 100 (14.4).

Serena Chalk placed second in the shot put (27-2) and ninth in the discus (65-10).

Jillian Mande placed second in the discus (89-2) and 16th in the shot put (15-51/2).

Monica Cendejas placed third in the long jump (12-0) and triple jump (24-2).

Itzel Contreras Flores placed third in the 400 (1:19.8).

Evelyn Alvarez placed third in the 3,200 (15:36) and fourth in the 1,600 (7:03).

Alexa Sandoval placed third in the shot put (26-9) and fifth in the discus (69-3).

Bryant placed third in the 300 hurdles (1:04), and fourth in the 100 hurdles (21.0) and long jump (11-5).

Izabella Jacquez placed fifth in the shot put (25-1) and eighth in the discus (67-11).

Yasmin Pinedo placed sixth in the shot put (24-11/2) and discus (68-11).

Carmen Arce placed sixth in the 200 (35.0) and seventh in the 100 (15.7).

Diana Sanchez placed seventh in the discus (68-51/2) and 12th in the shot put (18-81/2).

Maria Garcia placed ninth in the shot put (22-11/2) and 11th in the discus (65-61/2).

The Hawks didn’t post team scores at the varsity level of the CCC cluster meet on April 19 due to a lack of numbers.

“A lot of the boys set personal records in their events,” head coach Michael Mrgudic said. “We only had a handful of girls, but they did a good job. They competed well. Overall, everyone stepped up.”

Central Valley’s boys 4x100 relay team of Luis Flores, Darius Jackson, LaDre Sengsoury and Cesar Hernandez took ninth (3:59.71).

Central Valley’s boys 4x100 relay team of Flores, Jackson, Xavier Ramirez and Julian Alvarez took 10th (48.95).

Jadin Navarro took 11th in the 300 hurdles (51.24) and 14th in the 110 hurdles (20.51).

Ramirez took 14th in the long jump (15-41/2) and 33rd in the 100 (12.51).

Flores took 15th in the 400 (58.62) and 30th in the 100 (12.47).

Damian Cerrillo took 17th in the shot put (36-7) and 23rd in the discus (92-10).

Giselle Mendez led Central Valley’s girls team.

She took 10th in the long jump (13-51/2) and 16th in the 400 (1:13.08).

Natalie Parra took 16th in the shot put (18-9) and 17th in the discus (47-5).

Marlene Jaquez took 16th in the discus (53-11) and 17th in the shot put (17-6).

Jasmin Madriz took 19th in the 400 (1:16.69) and 34th in the 100 (15.63).

Vanessa Perez took 21st in the 400 (1:17.22).
