CHS, CV swim teams compete at league championships
Pata a double-winner for third year in a row

Julia Pata added two more individual titles to her collection.

The Ceres High junior swept the 200 free and 100 breast at the Western Athletic Conference Varsity Girls Swimming Championships on April 29 in Los Banos.

Pata placed first in the 50 free and 100 free at the WAC finals her sophomore and freshman years.

"It's exciting," Bulldogs head coach Sue Garcia said. "She's a champion in four of the eight individual strokes. It's delightful to have someone like that on the team. She's humble. She works hard. The younger swimmers look up to her."

Ciana Sather placed first in the 100 fly and second in the 100 back

"She not only improved her time (in the 100 fly)," Garcia said. "She took first and qualified for sections. She looked beautiful in the water."

Annie Connors placed third in the 100 free and fifth in the 50 free.

Kiera Brownlee placed third in the 200 IM and sixth in the 100 breast.

Camryn Silva placed fifth in the 200 IM.

Jullissa Arreola placed sixth in the 100 free and 100 back.

Lindsey Reedy placed sixth in the 500 free and 10th in the 100 breast.

Paige Connolly placed seventh in the 100 back and eighth in the 500 free.

Taylore Bentley placed eighth in the 50 free and ninth in the 100 free.

Kassandra Armas placed eighth in the 200 free and 10th in the 100 fly.

Monae Decamera placed 11th in the 100 back and 15th in the 200 IM.

Savannah Zielke placed 12th in the 100 fly.

Jade Dominguez placed 12th in the 100 back and 16th in the 200 free.

Melissa Duarte placed 14th in the 500 free.

Bianca Perez placed 16th in the 100 free and 17th in the 50 free.

Taleyna Sengsoury placed 18th in the 100 breast and 20th in the 200 free.

Makayla Lawrence placed 19th in the 200 IM and 47th in the 50 free.

Abigail Bernal placed 38th in the 100 free and 54th in the 50 free.

Central Valley sophomore Leilani Ortiz placed second in the 50 free and fourth in the 100 breast.

"She did awesome this year," Hawks head coach Sarah Willems said. "I'm super proud of her."

Nina Kees placed ninth in the 500 free.

Lisa Serna placed 13th in the 200 IM and 100 back.

Leticia Sandoval placed 13th in the 100 free.

Angela Mantineo placed 22nd in the 200 free.

Daniela Sandoval placed 34th in the 50 free.

Brianna Garcia placed 41st in the 50 free.

Maxine Violka placed 49th in the 50 free.

Mia Benjamin placed 56th in the 50 free.
Ceres High earned 236 points while finishing second overall in the team standings.

Central Valley (20 points) placed sixth.

"I'm happy," Willems said. "We didn't finish in last place again. We have such small numbers. I didn't think we'd beat anyone. It's nice."

Tristan Freitas-Scott led Ceres High's boys team, which totaled 105 points en route to a runner-up finish.

Freitas-Scott placed second in the 50 free and 500 free.

Caleb Bishop placed second in the 100 back and sixth in the 200 IM.

Bobby Baranski placed third in the 50 free and 100 free.

Gary Dodd placed fifth in the 100 fly and 100 free.

Elliott Lewis placed fifth in the 50 free and 100 breast.

Logan Kier placed fifth in the 500 free and 11th in the 100 breast.

Connor Mills placed seventh in the 200 free and 100 fly.

Michael Barnes placed seventh in the 100 back and eighth in the 200 free.

Adam Rantz placed 10th in the 500 free and 16th in the 100 breast.

Vinay Soni placed 12th in the 200 IM and 28th in the 100 free.

Jacob Sather placed 17th in the 100 free and 19th in the 100 back.

"I'm very happy with how the boys and girls teams did overall," Garcia said. "It was an incredible day. We had over 60 personal records set."

Central Valley's four-person boys team finished in seventh place.

The Hawks earned five points.

Christian Oliver placed eighth in the 50 free and 14th in the 100 free.

Cesar Armas placed 10th in the 100 breast and 13th in the 200 free.

Logan Kenworthy placed 12th in the 500 free.

Andy Jacinto placed 24th in the 50 free and 25th in the 100 free.

"They did well in their events," Willems said. "They all improved their times."
