Central Valley's varsity girls volleyball team had its two-match winning streak snapped by reigning Western Athletic Conference-champion Los Banos this past week.
The visiting Hawks lost, 26-24, 25-18, 25-15, to the Tigers on Wednesday.
Los Banos won the first meeting, 25-19, 25-16, 25-23, on Sept. 11 in Ceres.
Central Valley dropped to 3-4 in the WAC standings.
Los Banos improved to 7-0 in conference play.
Hawk Jacquelyn Sanchez tallied nine digs, two kills and one ace against the Tigers last week.
Brianna Quiroz added six digs, three blocks and four kills.
Anysia Lopez collected five kills, two blocks and two aces.
Host Central Valley edged Livingston 3-2 (25-21, 20-25, 19-25, 30-28, 15-11) on Sept. 25 in Ceres.
The Hawks avenged a 3-1 road loss sustained on Sept. 6.
Bulldogs prevail
Ceres High's varsity girls tennis program notched its first Western Athletic Conference victory under first-year head coach Vince Vega's guidance last week.
"It's a good feeling to win," Vega said. "The team spirit is different now. We're pretty optimistic."
The Bulldogs bested the Pacheco Panthers 7-2 on Thursday in Ceres.
Ceres High swept all six singles and one of three doubles matches during the one-sided victory.
"Pacheco had a lot of good players," Vega said. "But we were superior as a team."
Vivian Moreno defeated Frances Jacobo 6-0, 6-2 in No 1 singles play.
Shania Evans defeated Chelsea Cano 6-2, 6-1 in No. 2 singles play.
Harmen Bahia defeated Janette Salinas 6-1, 6-1 in No. 3 singles play.
Camille Vega defeated Fernanda Aguayo 6-1, 6-3 in No. 4 singles play.
Ariel Coria defeated Allyson Magana 6-3, 6-3 in No. 5 singles play.
Tania Garfias defeated Daisy Aldama 6-2, 6-2 in No. 6 singles play.
Gurmen Bahia and Kayla Sierras defeated Anarosa Velasquez and Xitlaly Gomez 6-2, 6-3 in No. 1 doubles play.
Jillian Jimenez and Jasmine Bahia defeated Therasa Garcia and Daisy Cermeno 6-2, 6-1 in No. 2 doubles play.
Ceres High nearly knocked off Livingston on Sept. 26.
The visiting Bulldogs won two of three doubles and two of six doubles matches during their 5-4 road loss to the Wolves.
Morgan Bejaran and Gurmen Bahia defeated Analucia Fuentes and Jiselle Trujillo 6-2, 6-1 in No. 1 doubles play.
Jimenez and Jasmine Bahia defeated Ariana Walker and Diana Rocha 7-5, 7-5 in No. 2 doubles play.
Moreno defeated Gabriela Ramirez 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) in No. 1 singles play.
Vega defeated Migdalya Pacheco 6-2, 6-1 in No. 3 singles play.
"I'm pretty happy with the team," coach Vega said. "We are improving every match."
