CHS splits with LB, CV finishes last at CCC meet

Ceres High’s and Central Valley’s track and field programs had mixed results during recent competitions.

“All of our boys and girls definitely stepped up,” Hawks’ co-head coach Michael Mrgudic said. “They got some personal bests. They did a great job.”

Ceres High secured a split during the opening week of the Western Athletic Conference dual-meet season.

Ceres High’s boys team improved to 1-0 after topping visiting Los Banos on March 8 at CUSD Stadium.

Faiva Tuakalau placed first in the shot put (37-7) and discus (104-3).

AJ Brown placed first in the high jump (5-6).

Tarrell Lee-Gill placed first in the triple jump (35-2) and third in the long jump (17-6).

Daniel Baker placed second in the shot put (35-31/2) and third in the discus (90-0).

Von Tigner placed third in the triple jump (31-0) and seventh in the long jump (13-5).

Angel Palma placed third in the shot put (34-7) and ninth in the discus (75-9).

Dakota Adams placed fourth in the long jump (15-6).

Kyle Phongsa placed fourth in the triple jump (29-4) and sixth in the long jump (15-0).

Thomas Lopez placed fourth in the shot put (34-2) and seventh in the discus (78-2).

Jaylin Jackson placed fourth in the discus (89-6) and 11th in the long jump (11-11).

Bryan Gallardo placed fifth in the shot put (33-71/2).

Kahmi Smith placed fifth in the discus (89-3) and ninth in the long jump (12-3).

Jesse Ortiz placed sixth in the discus and eighth in the shot put (29-6).

Jeremiah Diaz placed sixth in the shot put (31-01/2) and 12th in the discus (64-8).

Jorden Hogancamp placed seventh in the shot put (30-81/2) and 10th in the discus (72-0).

Jesus Madrigal placed ninth in the long jump (12-3), 11th in the shot put (25-41/2) and 13th in the discus (55-9).

Ceres High’s girls team dropped to 0-1 in the WAC standings after losing to Los Banos.

Jazymne Arendt placed first in the high jump (4-4).

Abigayil Prado placed first in the long jump (13-1).

Aliyah Strehl placed first in the triple jump (26-5) and second in the long jump (12-6).

Lilly Blevins placed first in the shot put (28-61/2) and sixth in the discus (60-0).

Jaden Stahl placed second in the triple jump (24-4).

Jillian Mande placed third in the shot put (26-5) and discus (74-3).

Monica Cendejas placed third in the triple jump (22-2) and seventh in the long jump (10-7).

Serena Chalk placed fourth in the shot put (26-01/2) and eighth in the discus (56-2).

Jayda Bryant placed fifth in the long jump (11-8).

Alexa Sandoval placed fifth in the shot put (25-9) and ninth in the discus (54-51/2).

Izabella Jacquez placed fifth in the discus (63-3) and ninth in the shot put (22-0).

Yasmin Pinedo placed seventh in the shot put (23-51/2) and 10th in the discus (51-111/2).

Maria Garcia placed seventh in the discus (57-4) and 10th in the shot put (21-9).

Diana Sanchez placed 11th in the shot put (19-2) and 12th in the discus (40-6).

Jissela Ramos placed 11th in the discus (41-0) and 12th in the shot put (17-21/2).

Leslie Sanchez placed 14th in the shot put (15-10) and discus (36-10).

Regina Quevedo placed 15th in the shot put (13-11/2) and discus (33-4).

Central Valley’s boys and girls track and field teams both placed last during the Central California Conference’s #1 cluster meet on March 15 at Golden Valley’s Veterans Stadium.

“We don’t have the numbers to compete (as a team),” Mrgudic said. 

Central Valley’s girls totaled 30 points while finishing behind Golden Valley (150), Atwater (132), El Capitan (106), Merced (55), Patterson (52) and Buhach Colony (39).

Hawk Kalli Hoffman placed first in the 100, 200 and 400, and 18th in the discus.

“She’s really strong,” Mrgudic said. “She’s a competitor.”

Ashby Anaya placed 13th in the 1,600 and 20th in the 800.

Jasmin Madtiz placed 19th in the 400 and discus.

Eliana Tamayo placed 20th in the 200.

Natalie Perra placed 21st in the shot put and 22nd in the discus.

Marlene Jaquez placed 22nd in the shot put and 23rd in the discus.

Central Valley’s boys earned 16 points while being bested by Golden Valley (184), Atwater (156), Merced (71), El Capitan (53), Patterson (32) and Buhach Colony (28).

Hawk Anthony Ramierez placed second in the long jump and third in the 100.

Darrius Jackson placed seventh in the 400.

Jadin Navarro placed 12th in the 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles, and 17th in the 200.

Xavier Ramirez placed 12th in the long jump and 31st in the 200.

Julian Alvarez placed 14th in the 300 hurdles.

Elijah Jackson placed 16th in the shot put and 17th in the discus.

Kevin Garcia placed 18th in the 3,200 and 28th in the 1,600.

Ricardo Perez placed 19th in the discus and 25th in the shot put.

Cesar Hernandez placed 20th in the 400.

Damien Cerrillo placed 20th in the shot put and 34th in the discus.

Luis Flores placed 23rd in the 400, 31st in the 100 and 37th in the 200.

LaDre Sengsoury placed 23rd in the 800 and 30th in the 1,600.

Central Valley’s 4x100 relay team of Xavier Ramirez, Darius Jackson, Luis Flores and Anthony Ramierez placed sixth.
