Crosstown showdown in swimming

Ceres High School's varsity swim program closed out the Western Athletic Conference dual-meet season against crosstown-rival Central Valley earlier this month.

Short on numbers, the Hawks dropped a pair of duals to the host Bulldogs on April 12 at CHS.

"It's hard to compete as a team when you don't have as many swimmers," Central Valley head coach Sarah Willems said. "They have a ton of kids that have been swimming for a long time. They know what they're doing."

The Bulldogs dominated the girls' competition, 116-32.

Julia Pata placed first in the 50 free and 100 free.

Ciana Sather placed first in the 100 fly and 100 back.

Jullissa Arreola placed first in the 500 free.

Kassandra Armas placed first in the 200 free and second in the 100 back.

Camryn Silva placed first in the 200 IM and third in the 100 free.

Noelia de Leon placed second in the 500 free.

Ninweh Gorges placed second in the 200 free.

Savannah Zielke placed second in the 100 fly and fourth in the 100 breast.

Rhiannon Wynne placed second in the 200 IM and fourth in the 100 free.

Kiera Brownlee placed second in the 100 breast and fourth in the 50 free.

Jennifer Martinez placed third in the 200 free and 100 breast.

Tania Garfias placed third in the 200 IM.

Silver Harvey placed fourth in the 500 free.

Priscilla Nungaray placed sixth in the 50 free.

Ceres High's 400 free relay team of Silva, Wynne, Armas and Arreola placed first.

Ceres High's 200 free relay team of Sather, Armas, Arreola and Pata placed first.

Ceres High's 200 free relay team of Brownlee, de Leon, Garfias and Wynne placed second.

Central Valley's Leilani Ortiz placed first in the 100 breast and second in the 50 free.

Aryanna Jimenez placed second in the 100 free and third in the 50 free.

Leticia Sandoval placed third in the 500 free.

Belle Martinez placed fifth in the 100 free.

Noelia Barron placed fifth in the 50 free.

Jocelyn Garcia placed sixth in the 100 free.

Central Valley's 200 medley relay team of Ortiz, Daniela Sandoval, Jimenez and Leticia Sandoval placed second.

Central Valley's 400 free relay team of Barron, Martinez, Emily Garcia and Jocelyn Garcia placed second.

Central Valley's 200 free relay team of Jimenez, Daniela Sandoval, Leticia Sandoval and Ortiz placed third.

The Bulldogs (4-1) and Hawks (0-5) finished second and last, respectively, in the WAC dual standings.

Ceres High's boys team prevailed, 121-16.

"I'm not disappointed at all," Willems said. "The majority of our kids dropped time. That's always nice to see. They also had fun."

Bulldog Caleb Bishop placed first in the 100 free and 100 back.

Tristan Freitas-Scott placed first in the 200 free and 500 free.

Elliott Lewis placed first in the 50 free and 100 breast.

Logan Kier placed first in the 200 IM and second in the 100 free.

Connor Mills placed first in the 100 fly and second in the 500 free.

Christian Pelayo placed second in the 200 IM and 100 back.

Mark Razo placed second in the 50 free and 100 fly.

Adam Rantz placed third in the 200 free and 100 breast.

Jacob Backman placed fourth in the 200 free and 100 breast.

Noah Rantz placed third in the 500 free and fourth in the 50 free.

Daniel McElwain placed fourth in the 100 free.
