Central Valley’s varsity boys tennis team kept its playoff hopes alive this past week.

The Hawks remained in fourth place in the Central California Conference standings after coasting to a 7-2 victory over Buhach Colony on Thursday in Ceres.

Central Valley and Patterson are battling for the CCC’s final postseason berth.

“We have to beat Patterson this week to tie for third place,”  Coach Mike Rodriguez said. “Then we’d play a tie-breaker match.”

Central Valley (6-5) won five of six singles and two of three doubles matches against Buhach Colony.

“The kids played hard,” Rodriguez said. 

Juan Zaragoza defeated Jenzen Ballesil 7-5, 6-4 in No. 1 singles play.

Rogelio Perez defeated Devon Patel 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 in No. 2 singles play.

Adrian Gomez defeated Javier Mendoza 7-6 (4), 6-1 in No. 4 singles play.

Omar Lepe defeated Michael Goodwyn 6-1, 6-1 in No. 5 singles play.

Andy Souksavath defeated Giancarlo Flores 6-0, 6-0 in No. 6 singles play.

Edman Vargas and Gurtej Sangha won by forfeit in No. 2 doubles play.

Joaquin Pulido and Aaron Madrigal won by forfeit in No. 3 doubles play.

Alexsander Kishore lost 6-2, 7-6 (8-6) to Rafael Hurtado in No. 3 singles play.

Belizario Ramirez Jr. and Lourdvic Polanes lost 5-7, 6-1, 10-6 to Alex Lucatero and Diego Ponce in No. 1 doubles play. 

Central Valley lost 7-2 at Merced on April 9.

Zaragoza and Perez accounted for the Hawks’ team points.

Zaragoza defeated Jesus Nunez 6-4, 7-5 in No. 1 singles play.

Perez defeated Cal Slatten 6-2, 6-1 in No. 2 singles play.

Kishore lost 6-1, 7-5 to Jaymes Meister in No. 3 singles play.

Gomez lost 6-4, 6-1 to Brian Garcia in No. 4 singles play.

Lepez lost 6-0, 6-2 to Fernando Hernandez in No. 5 singles play.

Souksavath lost 7-5, 6-3 to Brendan Chambers in No. 6 singles play.

Ramirez and Polanes lost 6-1, 6-1 to Victor Leon and Daniel Chen in No. 1 doubles play.

Vargas and Sangha lost 6-2, 6-4 to Alex Nziramasanga and Jacob Butler in No. 2 doubles play.

Pulido and Madrigal lost 6-1, 6-2 to Max Zimmerman and Omar Moreno in No. 3 doubles play.

“We have good, young group of players,” Rodriguez said. “We’ve gotten better over the season. We have a chance to finish at .500.”
