Senior Claudia Martinez and sophomore Lupita Becerra represented Central Valley's varsity girls tennis program at the Sac-Joaquin Section Division-II Doubles Tournament this past week in Roseville.

Martinez and Becerra lost 6-1, 6-1 to Rio Americano's second-seeded tandem of Amy Langlois and Claire Chally on Nov. 3 at Johnson Ranch Club Racquet Club.

"It was challenging," Martinez said. "But beating them wasn't impossible. Both of us had an off day. We could have communicated and executed better."

The section tournament featured doubles teams from the Western Athletic Conference, Valley Oak League, Capital Valley Conference, Solano County Athletic Conference and Tri-County Conference.

"Our league was a little more challenging," Martinez said.
Martinez and Becerra made program history for Central Valley's varsity girls tennis team the previous week.

Claudia and Lupita captured the WAC Doubles Tournament championship.

Seeded third, Martinez and Becerra won all four of their matches.

Martinez and Chelsea Flores finished in second place at the 2015 conference tourney.

"It was really nice getting there again," Martinez said. "I was looking forward to seeing what Lupita and I could do. We could have beaten them. I have high hopes for her (Lupita) for her junior and seniors years at Central Valley. She's young. She'll get better. She just has to put in the work like she did this year."

Claudia suited up for the Hawks for the final time.

Martinez plans to play tennis in college.

"It's been a good experience," Martinez said. "I wouldn't change anything."
