Central Valley's varsity boys wrestling team placed fourth for the second week in a row.

The Hawks competed at Oakdale's James Riddle Classic on Saturday.

Central Valley participated in the Ceres Invitational on Dec. 3.

"I feel like I've underestimated my team this year," Hawks head coach Rob Beckhart said. "They're wrestling at a high level."

Central Valley (102 points) finished behind Oakdale (231), Golden Valley (192) and Buhach Colony (122.50) at the Oakdale tournament.

"We wrestled without Christian Oliver," Beckhart said. "He's out for a couple of weeks with a finger injury. He's good for 10-15 points per tournament. That would have put us closer to Buhach Colony."

The Hawks topped 21 other teams, including Summerville, Calaveras, Durham, Woodcreek, Gregori, Patterson, Lodi, Turlock, Lincoln, Waterford, Central Catholic, Sonora, Winters, Bear River, Hamilton, Modesto High, Atwater, Orestimba, Grace Davis, Johansen and Downey.

"The kids expect to do well," Beckhart said.

The top six individuals in each weight class were awarded medals.

Central Valley had one champion.

David Lezama claimed the heavyweight title.

Lezama took first at the Ceres Invitational the previous weekend.

David won all three of his matches on Saturday.

He beat Calaveras' Chris Williams (pin), Gregori's Eric Sanchez (pin) and Winters' Angel Vital (decision).

"He's been competing at a high level this year," Beckhart said. "He's beating guys that are ranked in the section and honorable mention in the state."

Severo Vazquez took second in the 152-pound division.

Vazquez won two of three matches.

Severo beat Lincoln's Lorenzo Duenas (pin) and Waterford's Kyle Brown (major decision).

Freshman Kyle Hendrix took third at 113 pounds.

He won two of three matches.

Hendrix beat Bear River's Josh Miller (pin) and Orestimba's Adam Romero (pin).

Will Sprouse took fourth at 132 pounds.

He won two of four matches.

Sprouse beat Gregori's Trent Rodenborn (major decision) and Winters' Albert Ramos (pin).

Angel Rico (3-2, 220s) took sixth.

Rico beat Winters' Devon Moldong (pin), Orestimba's Ryan Roberts (pin) and Central Catholic's Sergio Bravo (pin).

Thomas Carrillo (0-3, 195s) placed eighth.
