Central Valley's freshman girls basketball squad had to settle for a runner-up finish at its home tournament last week.

"We are still growing as a team," head coach Julie Gant said. "We have skills. We just need to keep working hard."

Central Valley squandered a 10-point first-half lead en route to losing 27-22 to Gregori in the championship game on Dec. 9.

Gabby Benotti scored a team-high five points for the Hawks.

Jordynn Cushenberry and Jazmine Perez both contributed four points.

Makayla Bailey and Willow Vandenheiden tallied three points apiece.

Bandha Bhatti added two points.

Central Valley led 16- 6 at halftime and appeared on its way to a comfortable victory.

The Jaguars outscored the Hawks 21-6 after intermission.

Benotti scored 10 of her game-high 12 points in the first quarter during Central Valley's 43-14 win over Livingston on Dec. 8.

Bhatti had seven points.

Bailey, Vanderheiden and Leslie Alonzo all collected six points.

Cushenberry, Mykayla Arcenal and Georgia Robinson finished with two points apiece.

Central Valley routed Stagg 36-8 on Dec. 7.

Perez netted a team-high 10 points.

Benotti, Vanderheiden, Bhatti and Bailey tallied seven, six, five and four points, respectively.

Cushenberry and Brigite Martins chipped in with two points each.
