Hawks extend unbeaten streak to 16 games

Central Valley's varsity girls soccer team pushed its unbeaten streak to 16 games and captured its second straight Western Athletic Conference title this past week.

The Hawks improved to 18-1-1 on the year and 12-0-1 in the WAC after beating Pacheco and Los Banos by a combined score of 18-0.

First-place Central Valley increased its lead to 11 points over second-place Livingston (8-3-2) in the WAC standings.

Laiza Quintero and Jocelyn Rodriguez both scored twice during the Hawks' 8-0 shutout of host Pacheco on Thursday.

Abigail Martinez and Jocelyn Lopez collected one goal and two assists apiece.

Mixtly Vega and Jackie Sanchez each found the back of the net once.

Citlaly Salinas had one assist.

Central Valley clinched its second consecutive WAC crown with a 10-0 road victory against winless Los Banos on Feb. 7.

Quintero led the way with a career-high four goals.

Anusha Kumar added two goals.

Lopez, Sanchez and Salinas all contributed one goal and one assist.

Emely Lopez had one goal.

Mariana Garibay dished out two assists.

Martinez and Vega both chipped in with one assist each.

The Tigers dropped to 0-13-0 in conference play.

Central Valley placed first in the WAC last season with a near-perfect 11-1-0 record.

The Hawks will close out the regular season with a home contest versus crosstown-rival/second-place Ceres High (9-4-0) this Thursday at Ceres River Bluff Regional Park.

The game will begin at 3 p.m.

Central Valley beat Ceres High 2-1 and 4-1 earlier this year.
