CV scores 32 runs while posting 3-0 record in non-league play

Central Valley High School's varsity baseball team won three times and improved to 4-0 in non-league play this past week.

The Hawks scored a combined 32 runs against Pitman, Orestimba and Lathrop.

"Obviously, I can't be happier with our start," head coach Greg Magni said. "Nobody is trying to do too much. Hopefully, we keep the momentum going."

Central Valley defeated Pitman by the mercy rule, 12-2, in five innings on Friday in Turlock.

The Hawks pounded 16 hits.

Central Valley scored six runs in the top of the second inning, five in the third and one in the fifth.

"They have a great program," Magni said. "We weren't intimidated. We had a good day. Everything went our way."

Jorge Alvarez batted 4-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs.

Ruben Casas batted 1-for-3 with two RBIs and one run.

Raul Godinez batted 2-for-3 with one RBI and two runs.

Michael Ereso batted 2-for-4 with one RBI and two runs.

Isaiah Gonzales batted 1-for-3 with one RBI and two runs.

Ereso tossed his second straight shutout while starring at pitcher.

Michael allowed no runs and three hits with four strikeouts in five innings.

"He threw well again" Magni said.

Godinez, Central Valley's centerfielder, thrilled Hawk fans with a diving catch in the bottom of the fourth inning. Raul's highlight play saved two runs.

"That's the best catch I've ever seen in a high-school game," Magni said. "He's a tremendous athlete."

Central Valley collected 16 hits on its way to a 15-2 win over host Orestimba on Feb. 26.

Casas batted 2-for-4 with one double, two RBIs and two runs.

Jeff Reeves batted 2-for-3 with two RBIs and one run.

Austin Burns batted 2-for-4 with two RBIs and one run.

Ereso batted 3-for-4 with one RBI and two runs.

Alvarez batted 1-for-2 with one RBI and three runs.

Godinez drove in one run.

Raul gave up four singles and fanned seven while pitching.

Central Valley shut down Lathrop, 5-0, on Feb. 25 in Ceres.

Casas allowed three hits and struck out nine in 61/3 innings.

Alvarez batted 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run.

Ereso batted 2-for-4 with two runs.

Angel Gonzales batted 2-for-4.

Burns had two RBIs.

Godinez batted 1-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

Central Valley will play at Modesto Christian on Thursday and Summerville on Friday.
