Hawks improve to 4-0 in WAC standings

Central Valley High School's varsity wrestling team posted a 66-13 win over Pacheco on Jan. 20 in Ceres.

"We're trying to get better every week," Hawks head coach Rob Beckhart said.

First-place Central Valley improved to 8-2 on the year and 4-0 in the Western Athletic Conference dual-meet standings.

"We got a good group of kids," Beckhart said. "The (36-33) win against Los Banos gave them confidence."

Central Valley swept 11 of the 14 individual matches staged versus Pacheco, including five via pin and six by forfeit.

Luis Saucedo won by pin (0:43) over Pacheco's Carlos Villasenor at 120 pounds.

Christian Oliver won by pin (0:51) over Miguel Barrera at 126 pounds.

Joaquin Garcia won by pin (1:43) over Javier Gonzalez at 182 pounds.

Adrian Badillo won by pin (1:43) over Joseph Reinbold at 195 pounds.

Gabriel Martinez won by pin (3:20) over Gabriel Casarez at 170 pounds.

Isaac De La Cruz won by forfeit at 285 pounds.

Jason Beckhart won by forfeit at 220 pounds.

Alex Alvarado won by forfeit at 152 pounds.

Severo Vazquez won by forfeit at 145 pounds.

Jose Castillo won by forfeit at 138 pounds.

Wilber Arellano won by forfeit at 113 pounds.

Angel Gonzales lost by decision (6-4) to Pacheco's Christian Grijalva at 132 pounds. Gonzales gave up a takedown in the waning seconds of the match.

Claudia Martinez lost by major decision (18-7) to Anthony Velazquez at 106 pounds.

Andrew Marquez lost by pin (5:53) to Ruben Rocha at 160 pounds.

Central Valley prevailed as a team once again.

The Hawks extended their unbeaten streak in WAC dual-meet competition to 10 matches. Central Valley compiled a perfect 6-0 record last year.

"We're going to take first," Saucedo said.
