Jesse Ochoa and Bruce De Spain competed for the first time for Ceres High's varsity wrestling team this past week.

Ochoa, a senior, and De Spain, a freshman, battled during the Bulldogs' Red & White intra-squad scrimmage.

Jesse pinned Bruce in 53 seconds during their heavyweight clash en route to leading White past Red, 37-35, Wednesday evening at Phil de la Porte Gymnasium.

Ochoa needed to win by technical fall or pin to secure the team victory.

"It came down to the last match," Festa said. "Jesse hasn't wrestled since junior high. He had some injuries because of football that kept him out. He's very mature and athletic. Brian is a talented newcomer as a freshman. They're two first-year wrestlers with a lot of potential."

A total of 14 individual bouts were staged.

"There were a lot of competitive matches," Festa said. "I'm really excited about the progress the younger wrestlers are showing."

Camarillo won by major decision (12-3) over Tyler Fleming.
