Freshman Alizae Cole filled the stat sheet this past week while leading Ceres High’s softball team to wins against Pacheco and Johansen in Western Athletic Conference play.
Cole batted 6-for-8 from the plate with two home runs, one triple, one double, 10 RBIs and four runs.
“She’s been swinging the bat so well,” Bulldogs’ head coach Mike Corsaut said. “She’s just dialed in.”
Cole collected two home runs, one triple, one single, four runs and seven RBIs during Ceres High’s 21-0 mercy-rule victory over visiting Johansen on Wednesday.
Ava Montesdeoca batted 4-for-5 with one homer, five RBIs and five runs.
Isabela Giraldes batted 3-for-3 with one homer, two RBIs and three runs.
Emma Johnson batted 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBIs and one run.
Natalie Gomes collected one RBI and one run.
Brooklyn Heffernan scored twice.
Antonia Solis chipped in with two singles.
The Bulldogs scored three runs in both the first and second innings, six in the third and nine in the fourth.
Cole belted a three-run homer in the second inning.
Cole had a two-run home run, Montesdeoca hit a grand slam and Giraldes added a solo homer in the fourth inning.
“Everyone was hitting,” Corsaut said.
Heffernan tossed a no-hitter while starring at pitcher.
She had 10 strikeouts.
Ceres High edged Pacheco 5-3 on Friday in Los Banos.
“It’s always fun playing against Pacheco,” Corsaut said. “They have a quality program. They’re well-coached. They always play us tough.”
Heffernan totaled 13 strikeouts.
She allowed just one earned run and three hits.
The Bulldogs collected six hits on offense.
Montesdeoca batted 2-for-3 with one homer, one double, one RBI and two runs.
Cole batted 2-for-3 with one double and three RBIs.
Alayna DeLaTorre batted 1-for-2 with three runs.
Celeste Leon batted 1-for-3 with two runs.
Solis batted 1-for-4 with one run.
Heffernan and Tatum George both scored once.
Giraldes singled.
Cole’s three-run double to left-center field gave Ceres High a 5-3 lead with two outs in the sixth inning.
“She hits the ball hard every time she swings,” Corsaut said.
The game was tied 2-2 through five innings.
Montesdeoca had an inside-the-park homer in the first inning.
Ceres High improved to 8-6 overall and 4-0 in the WAC standings.
“I’m very happy,” Corsaut said. “We’re playing like we’re capable of playing. We haven’t reached our potential yet. We can be better. But it’s up to them.”
Ceres High will play host to Los Banos today and at Mountain House on Friday.
Both games will begin at 4 p.m.
First-place Ceres High and Los Banos have identical records in league play.
CV begins CCC play
Central Valley’s softball team opened the Central California Conference season this past week.
The Hawks dropped to 2-11 overall and 0-2 in the CCC standings after being beaten by Merced and Patterson.
Central Valley lost 15-2 to Merced on Thursday in Ceres.
Victoria Lloyd batted 1-for-3 with one homer, one RBI and one run.
Jannet Valencia batted 1-for-4 with one run.
Julia Roton batted 1-for-4 with one RBI.
Micaela Martinez batted 2-for-4.
Janessa Godinez singled.
Visiting Patterson edged Central Valley 6-4 on March 22.
Allie Peterman batted 2-for-3 with one triple, one double, two RBIs and one run.
Roton batted 1-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
Soriah Corona batted 1-for-2 with one RBI.
Priscilla Hamidat batted 2-for-3 with one run.
Lloyd batted 1-for-3 with one double and one run.
