Dawgs sweep Patriots in track & field
•CHS boys improve to 2-0 in WAC duals, girls even record at 1-1

Ceres High’s track and field program traveled to Modesto on Thursday to compete against Western Athletic Conference-rival Beyer.

Ceres High’s boys team improved to 2-0 in the WAC dual standings with a 75-59 win over the Patriots.

“We figured it was going to be a battle,” head coach Brett Johnson said. “We knew what they’re capable of. We did what we had to do and it was enough for us to win. Having the talent we have helps.”

Verlis Smith placed first in the 100 and long jump.

Austin Munguia placed first in the 200 and triple jump.

Lebron Stallworth placed first in the high jump.

Miguel Rivera placed first in the discus and third in the shot put.

Dakota Adams placed first in the pole vault and fourth in the triple jump.

Faiva Tuakalau placed first in the shot put and fifth in the discus.

Jaiden Boss placed second in the 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles.

Fermin Esparza placed second in the 100 and pole vault.

Manny Mendoza placed second in the 200 and third in the 100.

Eduardo Ortiz placed second in the 3,200 and sixth in the 1,600.

Daniel Baker placed second in the shot put and sixth in the discus.

Jonathan Yepez placed third in the 400.

Erick Valladares Ponce placed third in the 1,600 and 3,200.

Cesar Bolanos placed fourth in the 800 and fifth in the 1,600.

Jacob Swanson placed fourth in the 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles.

Daniel Rubio placed fourth in the discus and shot put.

Ricky Stanley placed fourth in the high jump, fifth in the 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles, and sixth in the long jump.

Eduardo Garcia placed fifth in the triple jump and eighth in the long jump.

Ceres High’s 4x100 relay team of Mendoza, Esparza, Munguia and Smith placed first.

Ceres High’s 4x400 relay team of Bolanos, Swanson, Yepez and Munguia placed first.

Ceres High’s girls evened its record at 1-1 after earning a 83-36 victory.

“We have a deeper team than them,” Johnson said. “That gave us a chance to go out there and place well.”

Maryn Curry placed first in the high jump, long jump and triple jump.

Ayla Weldon placed first in the 400.

Evelyn Alvarez placed first in the 1,600, and second in the 3,200 and 400.

Jillian Mande placed first in the discus and second in the shot put.

Jelaine Esguerra placed first in the 200 and third in the 100.

Sandra Espinoza placed second in the 100 and high jump.

Jaden Stahl placed second in the 800 and 3,200, and third in the triple jump.

Alexa Sandoval placed second in the discus and fourth in the shot put.

Jayda Bryant placed second in the long jump, 100 hurdles and 200, and fourth in the 100.

Monica Cendejas placed second in the triple jump, fourth in the 200 and sixth in the 100.

Alyssa Aveytia placed third in the shot put and fourth in the discus.

Camila Padilla placed third in the 200 and fifth in the 100.

Julieta De la Cruz Ramirez placed third in the long jump.

Ceres High’s 4x100 relay team of Esguerra, Weldon, Bryant and Espinoza placed first.

Ceres High’s 4x400 relay team of Weldon, Esguerra, Cendejas and Megan Yorba placed first.

Ceres High will compete at Johansen this Thursday in Modesto. The meet will get underway at 3:30 p.m.
