Haley Hoback completed her 20-lap race.

Dylan Browning held a bouquet of flowers while standing nearby on the pool deck.

Hoback accepted Browning's invitation to prom.

"It was a big surprise," Haley said.

"I thought it would be a good idea," Dylan said. "A lot of her friends helped me."

Hoback competed in one individual event and on two relay teams during the Ceres High School varsity girls swimming team's 101-69 loss to visiting Los Banos on Friday.

Haley placed fourth in the 500 free (7:38.91).

The Bulldogs' 400 free relay team of Hoback, Sarah Connors, Jade Dominguez and Alissa Coker placed fifth (5:37.81).

Ceres High's 200 medley relay team of Hoback, Jessica Cunnington, Kaitlyn Foster and Kathryn Allen placed sixth (2:48.12.)

Bulldog freshman Julia Pata swept the 50 free (26.22) and 500 free (5:55.38).

Pata posted a Sac-Joaquin Section meet qualifying time in the 50 free.

"I was pretty surprised," Julia said. "I was hoping to do it mid-season. It's pretty awesome."

Ciana Sather placed first in the 100 fly (1:09.76) and third in the 50 free (29.41).

Haley Turpin placed second in the 100 back (1:33.31).

Kiera Brownlee placed second in the 200 IM (3:01.66) and third in the 100 breast (1:28.28).

Cassidy Hines placed second in the 100 breast (1:28.20) and third in the 100 free (1:08.25).

Lindsey Reedy placed third in the 200 free (2:39.86) and fourth in the 100 breast (1:32.08).

Katrina Castillo placed fourth in the 100 free (1:11.22).

Allen placed fourth in the 100 back (1:45.26).

Jacklyn Lamb placed fourth in the 100 fly (1:29.75) and fifth in the 200 IM (3:15.41).

Annie Connors placed fourth in the 200 free (2:43.85) and sixth in the 50 free (30.95).

Foster placed fifth in the 100 fly (1:35.35).

Abigail Schmidt placed fifth in the 100 back (1:45.33).

Sarah Connors placed sixth in the 200 free (3:04.59).

Monae Decamera placed sixth in the 200 IM (3:48.39).

Chelsea Johnson placed sixth in the 100 free (1:20.85).

Dominguez placed sixth in the 500 free (8:18.59).

The Bulldogs' 200 medley relay team of Pata, Brownlee, Sather and Hines placed second (2:10.34).

Ceres High School's varsity boys swimming team opened the WAC dual-meet season with a 100-70 loss to visiting Los Banos this past week.

"I thought we did a fantastic job today," Bulldog standout Zachary Jones said. "We've been working hard as a team."

Jones finished first in the 50 free (24.14) and 100 free (55.28).

Erik Weststeyn finished first in the 100 fly (1:02.80) and second in the 100 back (1:11.69).

Stefan Perry finished first in the 500 free (6:13.63) and second in the 100 breast (1:12.94).

Logan Kier finished second in the 500 free (6:59.56) and sixth in the 50 free (30.28).

Nathan Stone finished third in the 200 IM (2:47.85) and 100 back (1:21.91).

Bobby Baranski finished third in the 50 free (25.38) and 100 free (58.63).

Timothy Campbell finished fourth in the 100 fly (1:14.00).

Connor Mills finished fourth in the 200 IM (2:52.38) and sixth in the 100 breast (1:34.69).

Caleb Bishop finished fourth in the 200 free (2:25.81) and fifth in the 100 breast (1:30.30).

Tino Amaya finished fifth in the 200 free (2:42.67).

Noah Rantz finished sixth in the 200 IM (3:39.55).

Fernando Olmos finished sixth in the 100 free (1:10.50).

Michael Barnes finished sixth in the 100 back (1:41.70).

Ceres High's 400 free relay team of Baranski, Weststeyn, Perry and Jones finished first (3:53.75).

Ceres High's 200 medley relay team of Weststeyn, Perry, Baranski and Jones finished second (1:59.27).

Ceres High's 200 free relay team of Stone, Mills, Bishop and Campbell finished third (1:54.69).

Ceres High will compete at Patterson this Friday at 3:30 p.m.
