Ceres High varsity girls tennis players Andria Esho and Stephanie Garcia teamed up at the Western Athletic Conference Doubles Championships on Thursday in Ceres.

Esho and Garcia lost 4-6, 6-4, 10-7 to eventual-champions Aimee Wheeler and Mariah Moreno of Pacheco in the semifinals.

Wheeler and Moreno battled back from a 4-1 deficit in the second set.

"We were in control of the match but couldn't close it out," Bulldogs head coach Bryan Harden said. "That's always the hardest thing to do. Playing from behind is a much easier task."

Esho and Garcia defeated Central Valley's Teresa Diaz and Bryana Lopez 6-4, 6-3 in the quarterfinals.

Andria and Stephanie edged Patterson's Huma Aziz and Valenia Delgado 4-6, 6-1, 10-2 in the opening round.

Bulldog teammates Aleena Ahmed and Azia Brewster advanced to the quarterfinals of the WAC doubles tournament.

Ahmed and Brewster defeated Pacheco's Miranda Arrey and Kayla Ayala 6-4, 6-4 in the first round.

Aleena and Azia lost 6-4, 6-4 to Los Banos' Catarina Borges and Kitzia Gonzales.

Ceres High's Dominique Koeurn and Sabrina Yang lost 6-0, 6-3 to Los Banos' Adri Moreno and Kiara Azevedo in the opening round.

"The kids were terrific today," Harden said. "They did a great job competing. I wouldn't say it was our best tennis, but they kept fighting."
