Central Valley boys track and field standout Anthony Ramirez turned in a career-best performance while competing at the Stanislaus County Championship Meet on March 8 in Riverbank.
The top three finishers in each event were awarded medals.
“I did surprise myself,” Ramirez said. “Lately, I’ve been struggling at practice with getting my steps down right (in the long jump).”
Ramirez soared a school-record 20 feet, 9 inches while taking first in the event.
“Everything felt good when I got to the jumping part,” he said. “I was excited to hear what I got. I know I can do better.”
Ramirez also set a PR en route to a fifth-place finish in the 100.
He finished the race in 11.51 seconds.
“I just feel stronger (this season),” Ramirez said. “There’s a lot more room for growth going forward from here if I keep practicing. I’m hoping to get a further distance (in the long jump).”
