Central Valley High School's varsity softball team evened its Western Athletic Conference record at 2-2.

The Hawks doubled last season's conference win total with a 13-2 blowout of Pacheco on March 28 in Los Banos.
Central Valley compiled a 1-11 record in WAC play a year ago.

"This year, we're doing the little things right," head coach Kristen Ghimenti said. "We're moving in the right direction. The feeling of winning is something we like."

Hawk Lexy Cordova allowed just one run, scattered seven hits, fanned two and walked three over six innings in a 95-pitch outing.

"She's doing exactly what she's supposed to do," Ghimenti said. "She's pitching really well."

Mia Lorenzo led Central Valley's 11-hit attack.

Lorenzo doubled, singled and knocked in four runs.

Cordova batted 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

Yescenia Godinez collected two RBIs and one single.

Lindsay Alexander singled twice and scored once.

Malynda Lomeli had one RBI and one single.

Bryana Lopez plated one run.

Sarah McElroy, Lynaya Lerma and Nicholette Mendez all singled.

The Hawks scored two runs in the top of the second inning, one in the fourth, four in the fifth and six in the sixth.

"We took advantage of the opportunities they gave us," Ghimenti said.

Central Valley will play host to crosstown-rival Ceres High today at 4 p.m.

The Hawks have an all-time record of 0-12 versus the Bulldogs.

"I was at Ceres High as a player and we never lost to them," Ghimenti said. "It would be a huge morale boost for my girls if we won. It would be historic."
