Hawks drop to fourth in standings

Central Valley's varsity boys tennis team defeated Pacheco and lost to Patterson and Los Banos in Western Athletic Conference play last week.

"It was a tough week," head coach Mike Rodriguez said.

Central Valley improved to 3-5 in the WAC standings after shutting out Pacheco 9-0 on Thursday in Los Banos.

The Panthers forfeited all three doubles matches to the Hawks.

"We did what we were supposed to do," Rodriguez said.

Central Valley swept all six singles against Pacheco.

Juan Zaragoza beat Jerry Winters 6-0, 6-4 in No. 1 singles play.

Rogelio Perez beat Luis Gaxiola in 6-3, 6-1 in No. 2 singles play.

Adrian Gomez beat Raul Amador 6-4, 6-3 in No. 3 singles play.

Ivan Jimenez beat Emiliano Muro 6-1, 6-0 in No. 4 singles play.

Andy Souksavath beat Shawn Gill 6-0, 6-1 in No. 5 singles play.

Rosendo Rojas beat Isaiah Houston-Sosa 6-3, 6-1 in No. 6 singles play.

Patterson blanked visiting Central Valley 9-0 on Wednesday.

The Hawks forfeited their No. 3 doubles match to the Tigers.

"We haven't played with our entire lineup this year for different reasons that have popped up," Rodriguez said. "That's unfortunate."

Zaragoza lost 6-4, 6-0 to Christopher Tapia in No. 1 singles play.

Perez lost 6-1, 6-2 to Lolyn Tejada in No. 2 singles play.

Gomez lost 6-3, 6-0 to Frankie Tang in No. 3 singles play.

Jimenez lost 6-0, 6-3 to Alex Alvarez in No. 4 singles play.

Souksavath lost 6-2, 6-3 to Logan Davis in No. 5 singles play.

Rojas lost 6-1, 6-2 to Jonathan Trans in No. 6 singles play.

Alex Kishore and Jason Figueroa lost 7-6 (8-6), 6-1 to David Prado-Bustos and Alexis Centeno in No. 1 doubles play.

Julian Sanchez and Gurtej Sangha lost 6-2, 6-4 to Adrian Cisneros and Roman Ornellas in No. 2 doubles play.

"Patterson's beatable," Rodriguez said. "They just hit the ball with a little more consistency than our guys."

Host Los Banos topped Central Valley 9-0 on April 10.

Zaragoza lost 6-1, 6-1 to Quentin Barcellos in No. 1 singles play.

Perez lost 6-1, 6-0 to Andy Liu in No. 2 singles play.

Jimenez lost 6-4, 6-1 to Jared Haug in No. 3 singles play.

Andy Souksovath lost 6-1, 6-0 to Will Marchese in No. 4 singles play.

Rojas lost 6-1, 6-0 to Ethan Machado in No. 5 singles play.

Kishore lost 6-2, 6-0 to Kyle Jackson in No. 6 singles play.

Figueroa and Sanchez lost 6-4, 6-0 to Parker Smith and Patrick Martinez in No. 1 doubles play.

Sangha and Belizario Ramirez Jr. lost 6-0, 6-0 to Felix Sanchez and Israel Lira in No. 2 doubles play.

"Patterson has a lot of experience," Rodriguez said.

Central Valley (3-5) remained in fourth place in the WAC standings.

"We're about where I thought we'd be with six freshmen playing," Rodriguez said. "We got some new guys. They're learning."

The Hawks will host the crosstown-rival Ceres High Bulldogs this Thursday.

The match will get underway at 3 p.m.
