Impressive volleyball performance by Bulldogs

Ceres High's varsity boys volleyball team defeated Livingston and Pacheco in Western Athletic Conference play last week.

Fourth-place Ceres High dealt first-place Livingston its first loss in WAC play on April 23.

The Bulldogs rallied for a 3-2 (25-17, 21-25, 10-25, 27-25, 15-12) victory.

Ceres High avenged a 3-1 loss.

"They played an undefeated team and rose to the occasion," head coach Darlene Tobler said. "They showed so much heart and grit. Their attitudes were great. They stayed positive the whole match."

Christian Murry led the Bulldogs with 24 kills, 12 digs, six blocks, five aces and two assists.

Gustavo Hernandez had 25 assists, 10 digs, five blocks and one kill.

Ivan Arita had 15 digs, 11 blocks, six kills and one assist.

Fernando Sosa had 11 digs, six blocks, three assists and one kill.

Freddi Lopez had 10 digs, 10 blocks and two kills.
Christian Martinez had 10 digs and two kills.

Alex Garcia had one kill.

Daniel Hadwick had one dig.
"That's our best effort so far," Murry said. "We just played hard. We wanted to break their undefeated streak."

Ceres High topped visiting Pacheco 3-1 (25-14, 25-27, 25-13, 25-9) Thursday evening at Phil de la Porte Gymnasium.

Jacob Rodriguez had a productive varsity debut with the Bulldogs.

He totaled 24 assists and five digs at setter.

"Jacob did a great job," Tobler said. "He was very confident. He was ready for the challenge. It was a seamless transition."

Rodriguez filled in for Hernandez, who missed the contest due to a family commitment.

Jacob was promoted from the Bulldogs' first-place junior-varsity team.

"I brought him up two days ago," Tobler said. "The team welcomed him with open arms."

Murry had 25 digs, 13 kills, seven blocks and one ace.

Arita had 16 digs, six kills and three blocks.

Martinez had 15 digs and four kills.

Sosa had 14 digs and one assist.

Lopez had four digs, three kills and one assist.

Cristian Garcia had two digs.

Alex Garcia had one dig.
