Central Valleys Edgar Castillo won both of his singles matches this past week.

Central Valley High School's varsity boys tennis team opened Western Athletic Conference play with a pair of victories on the road this past week.

"I'm not surprised," Hawks head coach Mike Rodriguez said. "The majority of our guys played last year. We got a lot of experience."

Central Valley defeated host Patterson 6-3 on Thursday.

The Hawks won four of six singles and two of three doubles matches versus the Tigers.

Edgar Castillo beat Francisco Lagarde 6-1, 6-2 in No. 2 singles play.

Ruben Morales beat Michael Cosio 3-6, 6-0, 6-2 in No. 4 singles play.

Brandyn Weis beat Steven Halseth 6-2, 6-0 in No. 5 singles play.

Jorge Bustos beat Harsimran Bains 6-3, 6-3 in No. 6 singles play.

Nimrat Chahal and Jesus Cuevas beat Antonio Villareal and Brian Rencinos 6-2, 6-2 in No. 2 doubles play.

Larry Garcia and Roman Ortiz beat James Johnson and Eduardo Ramirez 6-1, 7-6 (7-4) in No. 3 doubles play.

Alexis Villa lost 6-3, 6-1 to Julian Ramirez in No. 1 singles play.

Eric Morales lost 7-5, 6-1 to Dylan Halland in No. 3 singles play.

Navjot Kanda and Julio Pena lost 6-3, 6-1 to German Ortiz and Gerardo Ortiz in No. 1 doubles play.

Visiting Central Valley topped Livingston 7-2 on March 3.

The Hawks won all six singles and one of three doubles matches against the Wolves.
