Lubinsky, McGrath and Soni lead CHS past Livingston

Ceres High varsity boys volleyball players Chris Lubinsky, Vinay Soni and Jordan McGrath were recognized during Senior Night last week.

Lubinsky, McGrath and Soni helped lead the Bulldogs past the Wolves of Livingston, 25-17, 25-23, 23-25, 25-17, while playing together for the final time at Phil de la Porte Gymnasium Thursday evening.

“They’ve brought so much to our team,” head coach Darlene Tobler said. “They’re very hard workers. They’ve improved so much. I’m really sad to see them go. I care about each and every one of them very much.”

Chris totaled 14 digs, six kills, two blocks and one ace versus Livingston.

Jordan chipped in with 10 blocks, three kills and three digs.

Vinay added eight digs.

Ceres High teammates Christian Murry, Ivan Arita, Gustavo Hernandez, Eduardo Torres, Cristian Garcia and Prabh Singh also contributed.

Murry had 25 digs, six assists, one kill, one block and one ace.

Arita had 18 digs, two kills, two blocks, one assist and one ace.

Hernandez had 11 assists, seven digs, three aces and one kill.

Torres had 10 digs.

Garcia had eight digs, seven kills, five blocks and one ace.

Singh had four digs.

Third-place Ceres High improved to 18-9 overall and 8-5 in the Western Athletic Conference standings.

The Bulldogs made history this spring by securing their first-place Sac-Joaquin Section playoff berth.

Ceres High won 8 of 14 matches while finishing fourth in the WAC during its inaugural season in 2016.

“We’re really excited,” Tobler said. “This team deserves to go to playoffs. I had no doubt they’d succeed because of their commitment.”
