Youth-laden Dawgs fall to 1-3 in boys’ tennis standings

Ceres High’s varsity boys tennis team dropped a pair of Western Athletic Conference matches by shutout last week.

“The guys are beginners,” first-year coach David Ortiz said. “They’re still learning.”

Host Mountain House blanked Ceres High 9-0 on March 14.

The youth-laden Bulldogs fell to 1-3 in the WAC standings.

“There are teams I know we can definitely beat,” Ortiz said. 

Hassan Imran lost 6-2, 6-0 in No. 1 singles play.

Sameed Kahloon lost 6-2, 6-4 in No. 2 singles play.

Taymour Aadil lost 6-0, 6-0 in No. 3 singles play.

Francisco Ruiz lost 6-0, 6-0 in No. 4 singles play.

Andy Tan and Taylor Smith lost 6-2, 6-0 in No. 1 doubles play.

The Bulldogs lost the No. 5 and 6 singles and No. 2 and 3 doubles matches by default.

Visiting Los Banos shut out Ceres High 9-0 on March 12.

Imran lost 6-0, 6-2 in No. 1 singles play. 

Kahloon lost 6-4, 6-4 in No. 3 singles play.

Aadil lost 6-0, 6-1 in No. 4 singles play.

Ian Saldana lost 6-0, 6-0 in No. 5 singles play.

Hamza Ikran lost 6-0, 6-1 in No. 6 singles play.

Ruiz and Tan lost 6-1, 6-0 in No. 1 doubles play.

Noah Zamora and Eduardo Ramirez lost 6-2, 7-6 in No. 2 doubles play. 

Daniel Gonzalez and Blake Barr lost 6-1, 6-3 in No. 3 doubles play.

The Bulldogs lost the No. 2 singles match by default.

SWIMMING

Ceres High’s varsity swim program swept Pacheco on Friday in Los Banos.

“I’m happy with the outcome,” head coach Sue Garcia said.

Ceres High’s girls team improved to 3-1 in the Western Athletic Conference dual-meet standings following its 108-60 victory over the Panthers.

“It was a little more lopsided than expected,” Garcia said. “Pacheco’s top swimmer didn’t compete. She could have made a huge difference for them.”

Kassandra Armas placed first in the 200 free and 100 free.

Jullissa Arreola placed first in the 500 free.

Alene Feld placed first in the 200 IM and third in the 100 breast.

Makayla Estermann placed first in the 100 breast and fourth in the 50 free.

Allison McAdams placed second in the 100 free and 100 breast.

Tania Garfias placed second in the 50 free.

Paulina Miramontes placed second in the 100 back.

Katherine Hensley placed second in the 500 free and third in the 50 free.

Ashlyne Hott placed third in the 200 free.

Emily Wolff placed third in the 100 fly.

Valerie Ramos placed fourth in the 500 free.

Paige Adams placed fourth in the 200 free.

Sabrina Taylor placed fourth in the 200 IM.

Angelique Alvarado placed fourth in the 100 fly.

Ninweh Gorges placed fifth in the 100 back.

Silver Harvey placed fifth in the 200 IM and sixth in the 100 back.

Mitzy Collantes placed sixth in the 100 free.

Ceres High’s boys team improved to 2-2 in league with a 93-54 win against Pacheco. 

“We had more depth,” Garcia said.

Elliott Lewis placed first in the 100 free and 100 breast.

Diego Armas placed first in the 50 free and second in the 100 back.

Mark Razo placed first in the 100 fly and fourth in the 100 free.

Jeremy Kier placed second in the 200 IM and third in the 100 free.

Will Emmons placed second in the 500 free and third in the 200 IM.

Ryan Baranski placed second in the 50 free and third in the 100 back.

Luis Alvarez placed third in the 500 free and fifth in the 100 breast.

Kenneth Arroyo placed third in the 200 free and fourth in the 50 free.

Cruz Fee placed fourth in the 200 free.

Angel Figeroa placed fourth in the 100 breast.

Ceres High will host Los Banos this Friday at 3:30 p.m.
