Ceres High pitcher Andrea Mathis got plenty of run support from her teammates on Thursday in Ceres.
The Bulldogs collected 16 hits during their 12-0 victory over the Atwater Falcons. The game was stopped in the fifth inning on account of the 10-run rule.
"They didn't let me down," said Mathis, who gave up just two hits and struck out four batters. "They never do."
Ceres improved to 3-0 in the Central California Conference standings, 6-1-1 overall.
Atwater fell to 0-3 in league.
Eight of Ceres' players drove in at least one run.
"That's what we're capable of," said Ceres coach Mike Corsaut.
Meghan Franksen went 4-for-4 with two triples, scored four runs and had one RBI.
Monica Hall went 3-for-4 with a double, scored three runs and had two RBIs.
Heidi Eisenbeis went 4-for-4, scored two runs and had two RBIs.
Jennifer Arnold went 2-for-3 with a double and drove in two runs.
Amanda Gravitt went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
Elisha Ferguson, Monique Castro and Kelsey Sayad all had an RBI.
The Bulldogs scored runs in every inning except the third. The Bulldogs scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning, one in the second, four in the fourth and three in the fifth.
Ferguson, Gravitt, Castro and Arnold each had an RBI in the first inning.
Eisenbeis had an RBI in the second inning.
Franksen, Hall, Gravitt and Arnold each had an RBI in the fourth inning.
Hall, Eisenbeis and Sayad each had an RBI in the fifth inning.
"They did everything they wanted to do," said Atwater coach Joe Leonardo. "They hit the ball real well."
Leonardo had an umpire check one of Ceres' bats after Franksen lined a triple to the left-field fence in the second inning. The ball must have traveled 200 feet.
The bat in question, a Miken, is certified by the Amateur Softball Association.
"I know what bats are legal," Corsaut said. "I'm not going to do anything that's illegal."
Added Leonardo: "I don't think the bat should be used in any league. The ball comes off the bat too well."
"Once somebody gets hurt, they'll take it off (the ASA certified list)."
Leonardo backtracked.
"That's not the reason they won," he said. "They beat us because they hit the ball very well, played good defense and had great pitching."
Ceres 5, Downey 1
Mathis gave up one run on two hits in six innings and Franksen drove in two runs during the Bulldogs win over the Knights in Modesto on Tuesday, March 16.
Ceres won despite collecting just two hits against Downey pitcher Jenny Crocker. Crocker gave up five runs, two earned, on two hits in seven inning.
The Bulldogs scored twice in the top of the third inning and three times in the fourth.
Crocker drove in the Knights' lone run in the bottom of the sixth inning.
