Story, Salgado lead Ceres High past Pacheco

Ceres High School's varsity volleyball team opened the Western Athletic Conference season with a 25-6, 25-16, 16-25, 25-18 victory over Pacheco Thursday night in Los Banos.

"It shouldn't have gone to four games," Bulldogs head coach Stephanie Hamilton said. "I put in a different rotation than normal in game three. I wanted to give some of the other girls a chance to play."

Laura Story led Ceres High (3-2, 1-0) with 16 assists, five digs and two aces.

Diana Salgado had 16 digs, eight aces, six kills and one assist.

Prabhleen Kaur collected nine kills, six digs and two blocks.

Kassie Ruiz (nine digs, five aces, one assist), Sofia Luna (six blocks, six digs, three kills) and Kassondra Jordan (four aces, three kills, three digs, two blocks) also contributed.

"They all played wonderful," Hamilton said.

The Bulldogs will play at Los Banos tomorrow at 6 p.m.

Hawks lose twice

Central Valley High School's varsity volleyball team suffered back-to-back losses this past week.

The Hawks dropped their WAC opener, 25-20, 25-11, 25-10, to Livingston Thursday night in Ceres.

"We played awesome defense," Central Valley head coach Margo Arzola said. "We just struggled on offense."

Breanna Wideman had 11 assists for the Hawks ( 0-4, 0-1).

Malynda Lomeli tallied five digs. Geena Wade collected four kills and four blocks. Maday Padilla chipped in with four aces.

The Hawks lost 25-13, 25-22, 25-17 to Weston Ranch in non-conference play on Tuesday, Sept. 13 at Central Valley.

Padilla had five kills.

Wideman dished out five assists.

Drucella Miranda totaled five digs.

Brittany Martinez tallied five blocks.

Central Vallley played host to Patterson on Tuesday. Results were unavailable at press time.
