Candidate papers being pulled at City Hall

Already three days into the candidate filing period and there's plenty of interest in running for office. Monday marked the first day anyone may obtain nomination papers for mayor and three Ceres City Council seats.

Papers have been pulled at City Hall by six individuals. Registered voters living in Ceres have until Aug. 12 to return those papers filled out and signed by the required number of voters.

Chris Vierra and Mike Kline have both pulled papers to run for mayor. However, Kline has also pulled papers to run for the two-year council seat. He must decided which office to seek since he can't run for both, said City Clerk Cindy Heidorn.

Besides Kline, Anthony Estrada and Hugo Molina have papers to run for the two-year seat.

Incumbent Councilman Bret Durossette is the only candidate thus far to return completed papers for a four-year seat. Daniel Padilla also pulled papers. Incumbent Guillermo Ochoa is expected to papers this week in his bid for re-election.
