• TIP LEADS TO ARREST: CERES - A tip placed to the Crime Stoppers hotline led police on April 28 to arrest a suspect who may have committed a number of crimes in Ceres.

Brian J. Gomes, 24, was taken into custody after he was found hiding in the backyard in the 8900 block of Griffith Road in Delhi.

The Ceres Street Crimes Unit made the arrest along with officers from Turlock Plice and the Merced County Sheriff's Department.

Gomes was wanted on several Turlock Police warrants along with charges pertaining to several Ceres Police cases.

He was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, being a felon in possession of firearms, possession of stolen property, possession of a weapon with the serial number removed, possession of drugs, vehicle pursuit and warrants for drug possession and burglary.

• CONCEALED GUN IN STORE: CERES - A man suspected of shoplifting inside Cost Less Foods at 1610 E. Hatch Road on Thursday, April 27, was arrested for carrying a concealed gun.

At 11 p.m. a store security officer watched Ambris McGee, 21, of Modesto, making adjustments to his waist band in the liquor aisle. He saw a bulky item under his clothing and assumed that it was a bottle of liquor. Police were called and they searched Ambris. He hadn't taken anything from the store but was carrying a .45 Colt revolver with a barrel cut to half an inch. McGee was charged with carrying a concealed weapon.

• STOLEN VEHICLE RECOVERED: CERES - Two women were arrested for auto theft at 1:15 a.m. on Thursday, April 27 after Officer Julio Amador spotted them suspiciously parked in the 3100 block of S. Central Avenue.

When he checked the license plate of the white 1994 Saturn SL he learned that it had been stolen from Turlock. Passenger Alvina Haggard, 34, of Ceres, and driver Evelyn Coyle, 48, of Ceres, were arrested and charged with possession of a stolen vehicle. Coyle had an additional charge of possession of methamphetamine.

• SHOTS FIRED ON ROLLING OAK COURT: CERES - Police are investigating a drive-by shooting that took place early Sunday in the area of Rolling Oak Court and Whitewater Avenue.

The shooting was reported at 2:24 a.m. on May 2. Police located five spent casings in the intersection. No one was injured. Police found five rounds struck a vehicle on Rolling Oak while and a garage door also was hit.

• ASSAULT AT 7-ELEVEN: CERES - Police are looking for three men who robbed and beat a man standing outside of the 7-Eleven store at Service and Mitchell roads early Saturday morning, May 1.

Police were called at 12:10 a.m. to the store where David Argo, 24, of Stevinson, was bleeding from his face and hands following a robbery. Argo said he and his girlfriend had walked to the store from the nearby Blue Horse Bar and that he waited outside while she went inside the store. He was assaulted by two black males and one Hispanic male who struck him and stole his wallet. Police located the wallet discarded on the west side of the parking lot with $350 cash missing from it.
