• DRUGS FOUND IN SAUSALITO HOUSE: CERES - The Ceres Street Crimes Unit executed a search warrant in the 1300 block of Sausalito Court Wednesday, Feb. 10 and arrested three persons on various drug charges.

At 7:30 a.m. the team entered the Palacios residence and found a few pounds of marijuana, methamphetamine and a stolen handgun in the house. Lt. Brent Smith of the Ceres Police Department said the house was serving as a marijuana extraction lab which was producing hash.

Arrested on drug charges including drug manufacturing were Francisco Palacios, 54, Lourdes Palacios, 53, and Alfredo Rodriguez, 53, all of Ceres.

• STOLEN VEHICLE CHASED: CERES - Police quickly located a car that had been stolen Sunday evening but had to do a bit of chasing to get the thief.

At 10:45 p.m. the owner of a green 1992 Honda Accord called 911 to report their car stolen in the 1000 block of Moffet Road in Ceres. Officer Dan Fairchilds found the car driving in the area of River and Richland. He tried to pull the driver over but a chase was one for the next several minutes. The chase reached speeds of over 80 mph and at one point the suspect sideswiped a parked car and ran over a fire hydrant at the end of Yellow Brick Court.

The car stopped running at Hatch and Stonum and officers arrested driver David Mendoza, 20, of Modesto, and Ruffo Mendoza, 18, of Modesto. Both were arrested and charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and auto theft. David Mendoza was charged with felony evading an officer.

• DEPUTY HELPS ARREST VANDAL: CERES - An off-duty Sheriff's deputy was rolling through the area of Service Road and Brown Avenue Monday evening when he spotted a teenager spray-painting graffiti on a sound wall and got involved. The deputy called police at 6:30 p.m. and then followed the suspect after he got into a stolen car and took off. The deputy managed to run the license plate on the 1993 black Honda Civic and it came back as stolen. He followed the suspects to the 800 block of Fall River in Ceres where he held them at gunpoint until police units arrived.

Officer Steve Carvalho arrested Andrew Franco, 19, of Ceres, on charges of vandalism, violation of probation and gang enhancements.

The Sheriff's Department booked two occupants of the car for auto theft: Luis Hernandez, 19, and David Mantavo, 19.

• HIT-AND-RUN DRIVER APPREHENDED: CERES - A woman who allegedly crashed into another car Monday evening while driving drunk was apprehended not far from point of impact.

Police received a 911 call at 10 p.m. on Feb. 15 reporting a hit-and-run crash in the 1500 block of Herndon. The driver of a green Ford Mustang struck a Toyota Tacoma and then fled the scene. A short while later officer Vanessa Garcia and stopped the Mustang in the 1500 block of Richland Avenue. The car had front-end damage and air bags were deployed.

Ethel Shanaedolores Austin, 27, of Ceres, was visibly intoxicated and was arrested on charges of DUI and hit and run.

No one in the other car was injured, said Lt. Brent Smith.
