HOME INVASION SHOOTING: CERES - Police are investigating a shooting over the theft of a Nintendo game Wednesday in the apartments at 1301 Richland Avenue.

Deputy Chief of Police Mike Borges said that the shooting took place at 9:29 p.m. A 34-year-old man was shot in the leg.

The victim said he was home with two friends. Borges said when the victim left the apartment, two persons showed up at the door and were allowed in by his company. The intruders went to a bedroom where they located a Nintendo Wii game. As they were leaving the apartment, the victim returned and confronted them. The male suspect pistol whipped the victim and then shot him in the leg, said Borges.

The victim told police that he believes the suspects are acquaintances of his female roommate, who was not home at the time of the shooting, but did not know their names.

The male suspect was described as Hispanic, 28-29 years of age, 5-foot-3, thin build, black hair combed back and dark complexion. His Hispanic accomplice was a heavyset female in her 20's or 30's, with blonde hair, light-colored skin and standing 5-foot-7. She was also wearing a striped shirt.

Anyone with information on the crime is urged to call Ceres detectives at 538-5727.

PUBLIC URINATION LEADS TO BUST: CERES - Being caught urinating in public was the beginning of troubles for two men in an alley near Gaede's Used Cars at Morgan and Hatch.

Kevin Barber, 27, of Hughson, taken into custody on DUI warrant after being relieving himself by an alert officer. His friend, Darren Thomas, 30, of Glendale, Ariz., was told to leave the scene. Deputy Chief Mike Borges said that 20 minutes later one of his officers made a traffic stop on Thomas a vehicle in the Hatch and Herndon area. Thomas was arrested and charged with driving under the influence.

CAR SEIZED IN STREET RACING: CERES - Ceres police had a Newman man's car towed Thursday after a city officer spotted illegal street racing going on in the Morgan and Service roads area.

At 9:13 p.m. officers stopped a 1989 Honda Civic and learned that neither the driver nor passenger had a valid driver's license. Jose Martinez, 20, was cited for driving on a suspended license. He also had no auto insurance. The vehicle was impounded.

LOCAL FACES WEAPONS CHARGES: CERES - A 26-year-old Ceres man faces a variety of weapons charges after being stopped on his bicycle Saturday evening by an officer.

Officer Brinton Moore observed Michael Rose riding a bicycle at 12:10 a.m. and stopped him. Moore asked if Rose was carrying any weapons or drugs. Rose apparently dropped a .22-caliber handgun on the sidewalk. He was also found to be in possession of a tear gas canister and a dagger.

CARJACKING SUSPECT WANTED: CERES - Police are searching for a man who allegedly took his ex-girlfriend's car Saturday morning.

A 19-year-old woman was in possession of a car rented by her current boyfriend. At 9:16 a.m. she met up with her ex-boyfriend in the 1600 block of Herndon. When she went to use the bathroom, the ex grabbed her laptop, purse and car keys and drove off in the car. It was later located abandoned on South Ninth Street.

The suspect faces charges of carjacking, grand theft and auto theft.
